5.0 out of 5 stars Old Megadeth revisited November 4, 2011
By Gus
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This is the best musical surprise I have witnessed in the past 5 years. The album is a cross between the old Megadeth feel with a modern polished sound, which forms a perfect mesh. For full disclosure, I don't think there are any bad Megadeth albums out there, but in the post Youthanasia era there has been a clear drop in the level of authentic Mustaine emotion. The whole album has this perfect rolling sound without any breaks or low points. It is rare that I like an album on the first attempt, but this has been the case here. If you are a weathered Deth enthusiast, you obviously need to hear the final versions of New World Order and Millenium of the Blind. If you are interested in the best of what's new, I'd recommend Black Swan and Sudden Death. I can't wait for my next road trip...

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best Metal records of the year!! November 1, 2011
By Jacob
Format:Audio CD
Megadeth's Th1rt3en is fantastic in all areas. It rivals 2011 releases such as Anthrax's "Worship Music" and Five Finger Death Punch's "American Capitalist." Dave Mustaine is on top of his game throughout the record and his lyrical content is better than ever. Some of his lyrics really hit home considering the current state of the American psyche. If you are a Megadeth fan, you will enjoy this. If you are a hard rock/metal fan or a newer fan of Megadeth you will definitely enjoy this latest record! Highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic November 6, 2011
Format:Audio CD
All the haters can kiss my ass.I think this is a great album.I dont want another Peace sells or Rust in peace.Part of the thrill and enjoyment of being a fan is seeing what direction a band will go.Stop comparing every new album with an old one.Enjoy the new material and be thankful there are still a few bands that have been around for over 20 years that still put in the effort and have a passion for what they do.Megadeth,Iron Maiden,AC/DC,Anthrax,Metallica-i have never felt cheated on any album they've made.Personally,i can't stand most of the crap being put out by the newer groups and I hate to think of the future of music when the older bands finally call it a career.

5.0 out of 5 stars An absolutely AMAZING succesor to Endgame November 12, 2011
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
If you liked Endgame, you'll like Dave's latest effort. Pretty much every song is nice and heavy, with head-crushing riffs and blistering solos (Chris Broderick really knows his stuff). Tracks such as "New World Order" and "Deadly Nightshade" show what this band is really capable of. Higly recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars LISTEN TO ME, RATTLEHEADS!! November 1, 2011
Format:Audio CD
I've been a hardcore Megadeth fan for two decades now and being a singer/lyricist/guitarist have been greatly influenced by them and tend to dissect each album differently than everyone else I know. That being said, I knew not to expect "Endgame 2", but this truly surprised me. Dave scaled the leads on this album WAAAAY back, choosing instead to focus on the rhythm primarily, then riffs, which in and of itself wouldn't be so bad if most of it didn't sound like he was blatantly ripping himself off. Doesn't help that Shawn & David (welcome back) only give slightly better than mediocre performances. Don't get me wrong, the axework is superb, but great playing doesn't necessarily make a great song.

The lyrics are exactly what you've come to expect, but decidedly more "World Needs A Hero" - "United Abominations" than "Endgame" quality. Some are well crafted gold, some are unapologetic expressions from the heart and some just seem settled upon as, "good enough, let's move on". A little disappointing, at least from a lyricist's standpoint. I do like the way the basic structure of each track varies, something that I try to do with my own stuff and showing that the musician wants that song to be unique unto itself, if not the best that it can be. Verse, chorus, repeat, solo, etc. get's stale and more artists should care about changing it up. The fact that it's done so well here is an example of the caliber of musicianship that has come to define Mustaine. Respect.

As other reviewers have said, some of the tracks are re-hashes of '90's era ideas & demos, some of which I think were added just to get the song count up to 13. "New World Order" & "Millenium Of The Blind" were both on the 2004 re-release of "Youthanasia", the former of which I've been listening to for over a decade.

4.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME YET AGAIN December 1, 2011
By jimthar
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
the first time i heard this album, i have to say, i was kinda disappointed. but those were only cursory listens. after buying the album and sitting down and really listening to it, i have to say it's a great album. though i do still like ENDGAME better, i'll say that this is a great addition to the megadeth that started it's run of great albums with 'the system has failed'. this album has a lot of elements from albums like 'countdown' and 'youthanasia' in it, and at the same time has some great ass kickers too. there are only a few songs that really dont do it for me. the biggest example of this being 'guns, drugs, and money'. i just cant dig that song. the rest however is great in it's own way. a lot of people are complaining about the inclusion of older songs like 'millennium of the blind' and 'new world order' but i think they sound great here. finally fleshed out into full songs. for a band that had only 2 months to write and record a full album, i think they did a helluva job. if you're a fan of the 'countdown' or 'youth' albums, i think you'll like this one just fine. really looking forward to album #14, when they reteam with andy sneap now. should be another killer.
