Daz Dillinger- Tha Dogg Pound Gangsta LP,
This review is from: Tha Dogg Pound Gangsta Lp (Audio CD)
West Coast Rapper/Producer Daz Dillinger delivers an album to checkout with "Tha Dogg Pound Gangsta" (2005). The album starts off with the upbeat party track "Thats the Way We Ride" feat. Shorty B. Daz talks about the ladies on the smooth "Do You Think About" while Shelly provides some soulful vocals. George Clinton and Daz collabrate on the Funkadelic "Nuthin Can Stop Us Now", this takes me back to when Ice Cube and Clinton did "Bop Gun" (One Nation). Daz delivers some real lyrics on "Do You Know". The albums high point for me comes in the albums next two tracks. Daz shines on "F*** Dreamin' Tha Same Dream" backed by a strong chorus from Andrea Gray. One message in this track is to reach for your dreams dont expect other people to deliver them. My favourite track on this album is the outstanding "My Mama Said", backed by an addictive beat, Daz rhymes with hunger, providing his own impressive chorus. The fastpaced "My Ambitionz Az A Ridah 2005" follows, then Daz hooks up with Nate Dogg for "Come Close" a feel good love track which has the makings of a commercial single. Daz follows this up with another ballad to the ladies on "Rocc Wit Daz" and then gets sexual on "Bomb Ass Pussy 2005". Daz talks about the struggle to make money on another standout "N**** Gotta Hustle It Up". Daz reps himself and the West on the thugged out title cut "Tha Dogg Pound Gangsta" and then closes off the album with his own version of "F*** The Police 2005". Overall "Tha Dogg Pound Gangsta LP" is a strong release which I highly recommed to Dillinger fans, and fans of West Coast Hip Hop.

Daz's Best Solo Effort,
By G Funkin (Land of Sunshine) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tha Dogg Pound Gangsta Lp (Audio CD)
Dogg Food by Tha Dogg Pound is one of my favorite albums of all time. Although Daz is known more for his production skills and Kurupt for his lyrical ability, I think Daz is just as good of a rapper. After Dogg Food Daz moved underground and came out with several solo efforts. R.A.W and Retaliation, Revenge Get Back kept the Dogg Food magic alive while Gangsta Crunk, I Got Love for These Streets (and I fear So So Gangsta will too) aimed for something different. Tha Dogg Pound Gangsta LP fits under the first category, with the g funk sound of the 90s being updated for 2005. Overall, Retaliation, Revenge Get Back might be more consistent, but the good songs on Tha Dogg Pound Gangsta LP outshine the good songs on Retaliation. Daz's most recent solo effort sports 1 amazing classic, 3 near classics and some solid other songs all around.
The best g funk song I've heard from the new millennium, "That's The Way We Ride," is a real classic. Daz assembles a song in 2005 like he's back in 1995. DJ Easy Dicc is in the house of course, welcoming us back to a world where "Ain't No Fun" and "21 Jumpstreet" were the anthems to blaze. It's like neither he nor Daz has even left, like g funk hasn't fallen from the mainstream: "Who got the west coast sound that your always wantin'/Dogg Pound Gangstas, we still G-Funkin'" This song is nuts. The funky piano, the soft synths and random percussions in the background, coming in at all parts of the song. Unlike popular rap today, the beat is always changing, always challenging us. Shorty B helps out with the addictive hook and much like Daz's other fantastic production "21 Jumpstreet" our DJ takes two callers at the end while the amazing beat just keeps on flowin.' Daz goes romantic on "Come Close" a laid-back one with Nate Dogg again coming through. "Nigga Gotta Hustle It Up" is another laid-back one, a bit better than Come Close despite the absence of a real crooner like Nate. The closest one to a classic is "Nothin' Can Stop Us Now'" featuring George Clinton. Guess what that means? It's another g funker trying out "(Not Just) Knee Deep," the p-funk classic. But it provides another hit again. It sounds nothing like "Wit Dre Day," "Guerrila Funk," or "Who Am I?" to name a few. Here the sample is sped up a little and different elements are replayed in a different way. The hook created is nothing short of masterful. Upbeat and addictive, this one's perfect for parties. In the song, Daz takes us down memory lane, boasting about his many hits from back in the day. George Clinton even comes in at the end with some pseudo-philosophical words, much like he did on Pac's "Can't C Me". Near classic right there. Other songs worth mentioning are "Do U Know," another nice slow one, "Do U Think About," not a bad effort that unfortunately uses the same sample as "Keep Ya Head Up," one of the best rap songs ever. "Hey How Ya Doin'" is a really interesting one, with an eerie g funk beat that is more along Warren's lines. The hard "My Momma Said" and "Tha Dogg Pound Gangsta" round out the list of good/okay songs. All in all this album is a success. Daz mentions the past, but doesn't seem bitter at all. Instead, he seems happy just staying true to what worked for so long. And it definitely works here. 4.5

I really don't understand why some people don't like this Daz release, as it is one of his better albums. As a listener of any kind of music, this is one of my favorite hip hop albums. Some of the tracks may not be as fast paced as past DPG songs, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Tracks like "Come Close" featuring Nate Dogg, and "Rocc wit Daz" are very moving songs with a laid back So-Cal type feel to it; listen to those songs at least twice and you'll understand. Other standouts include "That's the way we ride", "Everybody Givin It Up", and "Ni##a gotta hustle it up."
This is a cool album to cruise to on a summer day, or along the coast. I highly recommend it to any open minded music listener.

Say Daz, this joint is nice. It's about time somebody on the west drop some funk bombs. Keep doing your thang, man. As far as these haters go, don't even trip on 'em...cause they're some straight bustaz. Keep it Gangsta. Keep it Funky. Stay up Daz.
Peace.

Thats right! Finally another gr8 album from the good half of the DPG, Daz shows that he keeps Tha Dogg Pound Legacy alive and strong! I've been waiting for Kurupts Against The Grain 4 ever. And no release since he is now back on tha row, and push backs for years. I have been buying all of daz's releases instead. Never disappointing. Hopefully this album will catch on to the dpg fans. Long live Tha Pound!!!!! DPG 4 LIFE!!!!! Keep'em COMIN!!!

Do Not Listen To The Haters,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Tha Dogg Pound Gangsta Lp (Audio CD)
This cd is great and that is the only reason you need to buy this album. Daz is a great artist and works hard to bring albums out and he has his own company and does not sellout to the commercial scene and that is why i like this guy. So buy the cd

This cd is good not great but i like it because Daz made it and I am a huge fan of his. He is one of the original rappers from the westcoast and has been in this game for a very long time. I do not know why people are hating on him maybe because he never went commercial and stayed true to the game. Anyways buy this cd it is very good.

Buy this cd it is well worth the price and u have will a great cd in your rap collection. Lyrically this is not that good but i do not mind cause i luv the banging beats on here. Daz is a underrated producer and rapper so not many people think he is that great but they dont, know their minds are being corrupted by 50 cent who is a snitch and a sellout and so he is not getting very much attention but oh well for those of you who bought this u know that this cd is worth it. Anyways buy this album it is worth it.
