5.0 out of 5 stars Best Since Doggystyle!
Well for all those wondering which Snoop album to get between 'Tha Last Meal' and 'Dead Man Walkin', the answer is easy: Tha Last Meal. Snoop shows us on this album that he still has some of the magic he had 7 years back. My only real complaint about this album is that the following people weren't on it: Xzibit, Daz, Kurpt, Warren G, etc... If those guys we're on the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Some great material mixed with some weak one!
The truth is that after all the hype surrounding this album I was expecting much much more! Instead of that we got an album just a bit better than "No Limit Top Dogg", nothing close to "Doggy Style". The porblem is again that it's just too long and outta 19 tracks only about 10 are really worth listening to. The other ones to me aren't good enough and...

If those guys we're on the album, it might have been as good as Doggystyle! My Favorite songs on tha album are: Hennessey & Buddah, Snoop Dogg, True Lies, Go Away, Set it Off, Lay Low, Issues, Brake Fluid, Ready 2 Ryde, and Y'all Gone Miss Me. To keep this review as short as possible i'll put it this way. This album is a little different then Doggystyle and his past albums, it has less party tracks and its more serious... If your a Snoop fan, you need to check out the album. Now for all those wondering if this is Snoop's BEST album, now that is totally up to you! Doggystyle is less-serious, and more about partying. Tha Last Meal is quite a bit more serious. Right now, i think they are pretty much equal cuz i feel BOTH of the styles... just buy the damn thing.

BTW, Snoop fans: you might think the album is wack for the first 2-3 listens(due to the fact that its different then his albums before) but after that you listen to it a couple times you realize its a really tight album.. its the type of album that you appreciate more and more after every listen!

2.0 out of 5 stars One of snoop's very worst albums, June 12, 2003
By
Cory G. (Vic, Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tha Last Meal (Audio CD)
Ok let's start with the good. This album has some really great and different beats(mostly), and there was obviously alot of work put into the production. There was some very good songs on this album that combined both ingenious beats and great flowing raps, such as Go away and Snoop dogg(what's my name pt.2). There is only about 2-3 good songs on the album.

Ok, now the bad. I was really expecting a good album from snoop. I bought this album from its reputation. I was told it was one of snoop's best by my friends so I bought it. I was familiar with snoops old albums, a few of which I own so I thought I'd be safe spending my money on this. But no. I was wrong. Everyone loves the song Lay low but mostly, people listen to it for the beat. It's almost exactly the same as Ambitionz az a ridah by 2pac, so it came out as repetitive to me as I've had that CD for years.

Alot of the rapping came from guest rappers. I was really looking forward to hearing snoop rap some new songs. There was a few but not enough to save the album.

Snoop knew he is done as a rapper of pure skills and originality. He releases his albums knowing that from his reputation and all the wannabe ganstas that listen to him to be cool will buy it and all he needs is 1 or 2 good songs to carry his album platinum.

If your a snoop fan, don't bother with it. It's a waste of time and money.

Forget it.

The other ones to me aren't good enough and that's it. Snoop's flow is getting better but it isn't even close to his first years. He's just lost the hunger and the agressiveness that once made him one of the best rappers in the game once. Still, he proves on this album that he still has got the talent and the creativity. He also gets a lot of help from other rappers : Bad Azz, MC Ren, Ice Cube, Suga Free, Eve, Rage, Soopafly, Master P, Tray Dee, Goldie Loc are some of the names and many time they outsine Snoop himself. The album's great songs have also got very tight production. The best beats are the ones by Meech Wells and Jelly Roll. The best song of the album "Lay Low" has got an amazing beat by the one and only Dr. Dre. I really like the album, at lest the 10 tracks I listen to. The other ones, I won't listen to. A thing that's bothering me is that Kokane is featured on too many songs and on most of them his singing is annoying and ruins the song itself.

4.0 out of 5 stars Snoop's Third Best Album In My Opnion, September 7, 2006
This review is from: Tha Last Meal (Audio CD)
In my opinion Doggystyle was his best album, Tha Doggfather is his second best album and Tha Last Meal is his third best album. Of course that's just my opinion and other's may dissagree with me. Well this album is bringing back memories of his prime on Deathrow. It has guest appearances by some of his old Deathrow homies - Lady Of Rage, Tha Dogg Pound and Nate Dogg and the lyrics are very much gangsta. And Dr Dre contributed to the production which also made it great. The reason I only gave it four stars is not because I judge all his records on his debut, but rather the album is great but not perfect. Well we have No Limit crap by crappy people like Master P and stuff, all the guest appearances should have been by his talented Deathrow homies. Then all the songs should have been produced by Dr Dre, not just only a couple. But overall this is a Snoop Dogg classic and should be owned by not only all Snoop Dogg fans but also all rap fans. I have liking for every song on this CD except "Back Up Off Me" which is an absolutely horrifc song. But only one skippable track is pretty good.

If you want good Snoop than go get this along with
Doggystyle
Tha Doggfather
Da Game Is To Be Sold Not To Be Told
No Limit Top Dogg

Avoid Paid Tha Cost To Be Da Boss and Rhythm And Gangsta unless your a diehard.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tha Last Meal by Snoop Dogg, March 12, 2006
This review is from: Tha Last Meal (Audio CD)
Confessions: I, illseed, confess to you, the reader, that I purchased a bootleg version of Snoop Dogg's Tha Last Meal. I didn't trust the West Coast G after he dropped a series of mediocre and very limited albums. After sinking so low as to buy a bootleg, I realized the complete error of my ways. Sorry Snoop.

Let's face it, after Snoop and producer Dr. Dre parted ways, there was nothing that made the DoggFather as appealing as when he first presented his southern, laid back flow on "Deep Cover." After defecting from Death Row Records and seeking solace with No Limit, Da Game Is To Be Sold, Not To Be Told (1998) had many heads losing faith in Snoopy. Top Dogg (1999), had him make a comeback of sort with the high powered "B-Please with production from Dr. Dre. In 2000/2001, Snoop is experiencing a full-fledged comeback with the release of Tha Last Meal.

Tha Last Meal is a collection of songs tightly strung together in one funky ass package. While Dr. Dre only laces "Hennesey N Buddah," "True Lies, " and "Lay Low", the album has his presence on it at all times and he mixes down the majority of the songs. Producers like Timbaland and Scott Storch and Battlecat stay on par with Dre and make exceptional contributions to the project.

Lyrically, Snoop is on some kind of stream of consciousness type of rhyming because it sounds as if he writes down the first thought that enters his brain. So, the lyrics are dope but never, ever mind-blowing like the early Dre Days. Perhaps the most surprizing aspect to Tha Last Meal is the inclusion of singer Kokane, who is featured on an astounding eight songs. Kokane increases the funk component.

Overall, Tha Last Meal is certain to satisfy the consumer and keep the Snoop cooking up more and more hits.

4.0 out of 5 stars More like a 4.5, December 9, 2002
By
This review is from: Tha Last Meal (Audio CD)
Snoop Dogg comes with his best album since Doggystyle on Tha Last Meal. It's more like a Snoop Dogg compilation however, with artist being featured on almost every track. Although the album runs a little long, more than half the songs are good and most of the rest are listenable. Timbaland's beat contributions ["Set It Off", "Snoop Dogg (What's My Name pt. II)"] stand out more here than Dr. Dre's ("Hennesey n Buddah", "Lay Low") on this release. Although the lyrical content is pretty silly (downright stupid at times) it's ok because Snoop has never really been known for his meaningful lyrics anyways. His soft laid back flow complements most of the beats well, and the addition of other artists help on most of the tracks. Best tracks: "Set It Off" and "Loosen' Control".

5.0 out of 5 stars Who's That Dippin In The Cadillac?, April 9, 2002
This review is from: Tha Last Meal (Audio CD)
Snoop returned with a vengeance on this Last Meal album. Being his last outing at No Limit; he leaves with a bang and drops his best album since Doggystyle. To Me Doggystyle is on a plateau all by itself, so there is no way this is coming close to it, but that doesnt mean the music is horrible. The music soundscapes provided by numerous producers such as Dr. Dre, Timbaland, Battlecat, Meech Wells and others are butter for yo breakfast toast. They flow smoothly into one another and is the sunny G-Funk that Snoop is usually known for.

The cd has ultimate playability and replay value especially since we are approaching summer. Snoops rhymes are his best since Doggystyle, and his flow as always is untouchable. His silky smooth voice lets you hear the beat without being overshadowed. There is nothing better than listening to Snoop on a nice sunny day. All the songs are excellent in my eyes except for I Cant Swim, which is pure garbage and messes up the flow of the album. Kokane appears on eight songs and I dont think he wears out his welcome; he is tight on the songs. The greatest songs are Hennessey N Buddah, True Lieswhich uses the Bill Clinton speech sample, Stacey Adamsone of the most pimpish songs ever, Lay Lowa rapid fire harsh diss to Death Row Records; Tray Dee shines. The singles are still tight such as Snoop Dogg Whats My Name part II where Timbaland crafts one of his slyer beats and Snoop is at his laid back best, and Loosen Control, the summertime classic about getting played and used. Eve guests on Ready To Ryde and is pretty tight, and Lady Of Rage emerges from the shadows on the Timbaland produced Set It Off. Snoop even takes his turn at singing on Leave Me Alone and is one of the tightest songs on the cd.

This release was one of the best releases of the 2001 year ( it came out December 2000 actually but mostly played in 2001)...Excellent beats, rhymes, and melodies make this a classiceven though it isnt on the level of Doggystyle ( no album is really). I recommend this to every Snoop fan and to anybody looking for some classic spring/summertime music.
