In an era when rock has completely broken all ties with its roots, and become boring and grindingly consistent, its good to go back and realize that there are still a lot of different ways to approach this pop thing. Sometimes, the people who know the least about authenticity do the best job. Take Pairote's cover of "Your Cheatin Heart," as well as the covers of "All Shook Up" and "Funky Broadway."
Make no mistake about it, this isn't some pansy watered down crap to sell at a health food store thats been doctored up with house beats and buddhas on the cover - this is the real deal. Raw and jangly, free of all the conventional approaches to learning and playing pop and rock and music.
It is my hope that records like these can help make a revelation for listeners- that the "third world" isn't so far away, and that when other cultures are influenced by Western pop, its only influence, not just blind and parrotting. A thousand year old culture doesn't just dissappear in the event that one Elvis record is broadcast.

This album is awesome! 55 minutes of garage rock bliss. If you think you might like it, you will! It is a bit of a novelty cd, but it is also thoroughly enjoyable (and danceable). Includes amazing original songs and Thai language covers of Elvis, Hank Williams, and Serge Gainsbourg. Any song on this album would fit perfectly on a Tarantino or John Waters soundtrack. The strangeness of this CD is totally captivating -- a mix of Thai stylings and Western pop music of the mid-20th-century. I heard it for the first time at a friend's place and had to have it right away. The whole album meets expectations. It's not only a novelty -- it's also rhythmic and fun and rockin' and sweet. Everyone I've played this CD for has adored it and wanted a copy. The cover art is also quite...hmmm, yeah, I can't really think of a word for it. Pretty damn great.

i had high hopes for this collection, it sounds like what it is, bad versions of pop songs sung in thia, i do enjoy world music, and have disc from all around the world, from 1890s to now, most of this disc is to light, sounds like radio music. if the disc cost 10$ a piece i would order the whole thing, but 17.98 is just to much for each
i doubt ill buy anymore, unless used versions fall in range. now i save for the cambodian rock series, which i do hope is better than this
