5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic deodorant
I'm looking up this product here because I will soon, I think, need to replace my last one. I have been using this deodorant stone/crystal for over ten years. And by that, I do not mean that I've been using this brand or this type of deodorant for over ten years; I mean I have been using ONE AND THE SAME STONE that has lasted for more that ten years! I do not use it...

2.0 out of 5 stars doesn't work
I bought this because the reviews said it was great. Well I don't find that it works at all. I think the best I could say it does is SLIGHTLY mute any B.O. and it doesn't stain my close which is why it got two stars. But you have to wet it to use it, which is inconvenient and, as I said, it really fails as a useful deodorant

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic deodorant, June 4, 2011
This review is from: Thai Deodorant Stone in Basket (Health and Beauty)
I'm looking up this product here because I will soon, I think, need to replace my last one. I have been using this deodorant stone/crystal for over ten years. And by that, I do not mean that I've been using this brand or this type of deodorant for over ten years; I mean I have been using ONE AND THE SAME STONE that has lasted for more that ten years! I do not use it sparingly, either--I use it daily and liberally around my pit area. My experience is similar to what some others have reported here: it does not sting, it leaves no visible traces on my skin, it is not sticky or goopy, it can not stain my clothes in any way, it has no odor of its own (and frankly, why would I want my *deodorant* competing with my preferred perfume or soap aroma??)--all on top of the most fundamental and key quality: I do not develop any stinky body odor *at* *all*, all day, in all climates. And yes, I can and do still sweat, sometimes quite a bit, depending on the weather & what I am doing--so it is not an antiperspirant (a plus, in my book). I was fully amazed when I first ever used one of these stones. I had difficulty believing it would work, it is so trace-less after application. It not only works well for me, and not just better than any other deodorant I've ever tried in my life, it works head-and-shoulders better, far, far better; there is no comparison to be made between the effectiveness of this product and whatever the next-best deodorant may be that I have ever tried.

My biggest challenge has been keeping it from breaking. I've been using this type of deodorant for over 16 years, and I know from experience that they can shatter. You really don't want to drop it from pit-height down onto any hard surfaces like hard floors, ceramic sinks, cast-iron tubs, etc. Then you'll have a few extremely effective but small deodorant chunks and chips (those have become my "travel" deodorant stones :-). I like another reviewer's suggestion of lifting it for application directly in the basket that it comes with--I've always lifted it out of the basket, in my fingers. However, that basket does have sides, and I'm here to tell you that, even if it takes you years to wear it down to the point where the sides of the basket keep you from applying it, it is not then time to throw the remaining piece away, bcs it is still plenty large enough to last you literally years longer yet. My own solution to the breakage problem--which worked for about ten years--is to 1) make sure my pits are well dampened all around (always after first cleaning them well), then 2) dry my hands very well, and 3) lift the dry stone with dry fingers and apply it to wet/damp pits. They dry quickly after that.

My sympathies to the folks who, for whatever reason, have a body chemistry for which this stone does not prove effective, as some reviewers here have reported to be their experience. Given the affordable cost of these things, I would encourage anyone to give them a try. You may find that you are among the legion sweaters for whom this thing works wonders.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!, August 30, 2007
This review is from: Thai Deodorant Stone in Basket (Health and Beauty)
I just started using this stone a few days ago and I'm really surprised! I have always used Suave deodorant and recently it started bugging me because the scents are too purfumey and you could still smell my body odor when I sweat.

Well, I started using my stone this week and it's been about 110 degrees and muggy! Surprisingly enough, I have no body odor whatsoever!! This has never happened before!! It's weird!

The stone is just like any other deodorant, except you have to wet it a little when you apply it. But your underarms don't get really slimy when you sweat, it actually stays pretty dry and no smell! Yay!

It seems like it will last forever too since it's really hard (like a rock) and pretty heavy. I dropped this stone twice already and only a tiny piece chipped off, so this stuff is dense and I wouldn't be surprised if it lasted me months!

Why don't they sell this stuff on every corner???

Here is what the packaging says:

"Ingredients: Mineral salts.

The Deodorant Stone is the most effective body deodorant known to man. The stone is 100% pure and is completely free of all additives and harmful chemicals. The deodorant stone is a product for men, women, and teens who care about their health and bodies.

Easy to use ... Just moisten the stone and apply to your body as you would any other type of roll-on product. Cover the entire area generously. The stone works by eliminating bacteria growth which is the cause of body odor. So by eliminating this bacteria we have eliminated unpleasant body odors.

Works great for foot odor problems too!!"

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly effective, January 30, 2010

I purchased this because I got tired of the heavy goop which my previous anti-perspirant/deodorant left on my underarms. I often tell people that I sweat like a pig (I know, pigs don't sweat). This product does not control the sweating but there is NO odor. It last all day and there is no noticeable residue. I have used it daily for the past month and it looks like it will last at least for the next 6 months. An excellent deal for the money. I highly recommend it. It deodorizes very well but it does not control perspiration.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, March 23, 2011

I've used deodorant stones for the last 5 years. It was a difficult transition because during the first week it wouldn't last more than 4 to 6 hours. However, the longer I used it the longer it lasted. It took about 2 to 3 weeks but now it lasts throughout the day and into the night. This makes sense since bacteria is what causes body oder and therefore the longer you use it, the less bacteria you have.

Applying wet is perfect when you just get out of the shower.

The savings in deodorant is amazing. One stone equals about 10 commercial deodorant sticks. I've been using the product by NOW but this is so much cheaper I had to try it.

5.0 out of 5 stars It Works!, September 14, 2008

Mrs Cat "cyberfabe" (Cincinnati Ohio USA) - See all my reviews
I have tried everything. Everything. The old stand bys' (Ban, Secret, etc.). Don't work. I tried the new fangled naturals which (by the way) work great...you don't stink BUT you are likely to get Pits Of Fire. That's right, pure and natural baking soda will stop the stink but at the price of a rip snorting AWFUL rash/burn/itch/welts which will make you stop using it.

What's a person to do? The Thai stone works perfectly. It is cheap, easy to use, does not sting, does not promote Pits Of Fire, and it natural. Above all, it works. Did I tell you that it works? I do not smell like sweat (old or new) when I use it. It works all day.

By the way, it comes in a cute little basket. I thought that was just for looks but leave the basket on and that is where you can pick it up and swirl it on without getting your fingers in the wet stone (which is slick).

I give it my unqualified thumbs up. Yes, even thumbs up over my head!

4.0 out of 5 stars I Am More Than Satisfied, October 8, 2007
I am more than satisfied with this deodorant stone. Just like everyone else, I was in disbelief that I didn't smell like anything. I kept smelling myself just to make sure there wasn't that smell of body odor... and NOTHING. No fake scent, but no hideous smell of chicken soup either. I was a little mislead by the size of the stone; looking at the picture, it appears to be a little bigger. It's about the size of an average human palm, which is actually very convenient since it's easy to roll on. Just wet it and slap it on. This will no doubt last me for a long time since it hasn't even lost shape, but I will definitely be buying another soon (just to have a backup).

5.0 out of 5 stars It Works!, February 24, 2012

I'm on the typical quest to cut down the unnecessary chemicals in my life and deodorants were a concern with aluminum and propane glycol etc (not to mention the proximity of the armpit to a woman's breast and the possibility of this adding to the rates of cancer in the region).

After testing out a long list of so-called natural deodorants (all the stick and gel varieties), I finally gave these stones a shot.

I have to admit, it doesn't stop sweat. But I have no stink at all! Also I used to have a lot of razor burn on the underarms after shaving and that too, is cured (whereas all the other deodorants tended to aggravate the skin more).

I put it on after the shower (when the underarms are good and wet);then I wait for it dry. I doubt this stone would work if you didn't wet it first.

I'm very happy with this find and plan to keep using this product.

I'm also testing it out as a treatment for back acne (which I know might sound strange but the stone works by stopping bacteria and leaving a sort of faint film of salt, hence it should help acne as well). Don't worry, I'm using one side for the underarms and the other for the back. Will try to revise this review in a month's time to tell if it works for this dual purpose as well.

Armpits and Acne, great things to air on Amazon! I hope this review wasn't too disgusting for you!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, February 5, 2012
This review is from: Thai Deodorant Stone in Basket (Health and Beauty)
I am a vegan (no meat, milk, dairy, honey or other animal products), so I was looking to replace my old conventional deodorant with a more animal-friendly one. I tried a scented stick type that I found at a local health food store, but it didn't work at all and I became allergic to it within a week. I was disappointed, but then I remembered seeing the Thai Deodorant Crystal at the same store and I looked up the reviews here on Amazon. I was happy to see that the vast majority of them were positive. I went back to the health food store the next day and picked up the crystal. I absolutely LOVE it. I live in Fl where it's often 80+ degrees in Jan. I am also moderately active ( 30-60 minutes of exercise a day at minimum), so I'm no stranger to sweat. This deodorant works very well. I still sweat since it is not an anti-perspirant, but there is no odor at all. I am very glad that I found this and highly recommend it to everyone.

I had a problem with deodorant products, rashes, irritation, itchy, soreness and more, they were costly and did not work for me. Then I tried this Thai Stone and was amazed that it worked for me. And that has been 30 years and I have saved thousands of dollars, because one Stone can last a year!!
