After reading through this phrasebook, I've but two main observations. First is the positive. The tone markers are incredibly easy to understand, in fact, it is the best system I've seen so far. My only complaint is that there is absolutely no Thai scrpit in the book at all. So if you are having trouble pronouncing the word, your Thai friend/companion/etc. cannot simply read the Thai script and help you out. Other than that this is a nice phrasebook which has come in handy when I've used it in conjunction with other Thai language-learning materials.

The Thai in this dictionary is transliterated into Roman characters, the Thai alphabet is not used in this dictionary. The transliteration scheme is easy to learn quickly, and the tone markers are among the most transparent I've ever seen. There are decent grammar and phrasebook sections. The dictionary itself is somewhat skimpy ~800 Thai to English entries and ~1700 English to Thai entries.

I've used this phrasebook on several trips to Thailand and have found that it was good and easy to use. I disagree with your reviewer who said there were a lot of mistakes in it. I think possibly he didn't understand the pronunciation system, which is actually very easy to use. I haven't found any mistakes in it, and everything I've seen in it is correct according to a short Thai course I took. In fact, I think this book is the easiest to use if you're trying to get correct pronunciation and tones. I would recommend it to anyone going to Thailand or studying Thai.

We travelled to Thailand over the summer and found the phrasebook easy to use and very helpful- it's a must if you're headed there, for getting around, ordering food, discovering places off the beaten track, and getting to know local people. Don't leave home without it.

I teach Thai international students English for academic purposes (TOEFL). When I first purchased this book long ago i attempted to use the phrases with Thai people. I have found many mistakes and misprounciations. My Thai students and instructors in Thailand have pointed out that many phrases in this book are too long and do not reflect the tonal and voice reflections. This would make it possible for a person to say: You are my dog, instead of: You are my friend. For the money, I would say this is the best book for the english speaking beginner or casual traveler. But beware the information is not always accurate and leaves much to be desired in in correct pronounciation.

My Kindle is perfect for reading books thru from point A to point Z, without much need for navigation. Obviously a phrase book is one that you want to consult at any point as quickly as possible. I find this impossible on Kindle. In addition, this particular book, altho its content is fine, suffers from poor layout and non-uniform typeface sizes that on some pages cannot be scaled up or down. Save your money and buy a hardcopy phrasebook.

I think this is the best of the small Thai dictionary/phrasebooks I've seen. The tone markers are very easy to read and the words and phrases are useful. I've been studying Thai for over a year and have been to Thailand and found the book extremely helpful for communicating with Thais.

Learning to speak a tonal language is challenging for a native English-speaker. This small book, perfect to pack for a trip to beautiful Thailand, is a great start for the traveller. The book includes important words and phrases as well as information on pronunciation and grammar. Well done!

Promptly received verification of order, date shipped and approx arrival dates. Since I live in Hawaii the arrival dates were off. When I contacted the seller I was assured it would still arrive and seller was kind and gave excellent customer service. The book arrived in beautiful condition no one at the party believed it was a used book. :-)

I am very please with this book, it is a great tool in assisting me learn to speak Thai. I'm currently using the Rosetta Stone program for the pronunciation of the words. However, seeing the works written in English helps immensely.
