Another fine book,

This review is from: Thai Massage: Knowing Where and How to Touch (Quality of Life (Ideals)) (Paperback)
I have been studying this ancient modality for 10 years and lately it seems that every day there is a new book or video on Thai Massage. While there are some differences in style and posture when it comes to Thai Massage, I've found that the old Thai saying, "same same, but different" applies here. That being said, Ms. Avraham has a wonderful approach to Thai Massage. I particularly enjoy the descriptions and the chapters that lead up to the technique portion of the book. She has a great section on contraindications, the Sen Lines, and on practitioner body mechanices. When you get into the Technique/Routine portion of the book, the descriptions are well written, the pictures are in black and white, and show postures from the simplest perspective, but overall will not "dazzle" the reader. This is a great book to have in your collection, but it's not the only book you should refer to for Thai Massage information - and, most importantly, no one should assume that they can learn this technique from a book or a video.

As a Chinese doctor, I know 2 most popular massage in Asia: Chinese and Tai Massage. It's not easy to learn all meridian points (several hundreds in all) for good results in Chinese therapeutical massage. Just following the book, you may learn and practise Thai Massage. It seems easier for most people.

As a Holistic Practitioner I found this book is very pratical, the exercises and guidance in this book are easy to follow, reading the book almost like attending a real live workshop. I like the "Do-It-Yourself" exercise program, I'll recommend this book to my clients.

Mrs. Beatrice Avram offered us a very good book. Some of my friends who are dealing with healing procedures, found it interesting and useful. Also, the high professional level presented in a simple and easy to understand language, makes it accessible for a wide audience.

THIS IS A VERY INFORMATIVE AND PRACTICAL BOOK WITH PICTURES CLARIFYING AND GUIDING THE READER INTO THE FIELD OF THAI MASSAGE. THE AUTHOR, BEATRICE AVRAHAM, DEMONSTRATES THE TECHNIQUES FOR PERFORMING THE THAI MASSAGE WITH CLARITY AND PRECISION.
I FOUND VERY HELPFUL THE 'DO-IT-YOURSELF' PART OF THE BOOK AND I RECOMMEND IT AS AN INVALUABLE TOOL FOR THOSE LOOKING ON WAYS TO ADDRESS SPECIFIC HEALING NEEDS.

This is by far the best book on Thai Massage that exists out there. The author is clearly well versed in the material. She is able to explain the postures in a way that both armature and professional practitioners will appreciate. Worth trying for both the young and the old!

Having been a qualified practitioner of Shiatsu for 20 years, I was very impressed with seeing the great similarity that exists between Thai massage and Shiatsu. I fact, I was able to identity over 90% techniques and applications in your book that I used to apply during my own Shiatsu practice. And in this respect, I can greatly commend you on illustrating so clearly and beautifully some of the most important aspects of message that I have personally experienced. In other words, I know for sure how profound Thai massage must be. Your book is a wonderful practical guide to those who wish to assist others in their quest for greater health and vitality, and who also want to improve their own wellbeing.

The simple yet clear presentations in Beatrice Avraham's book, "Thai Massage", are a great inspiration to anyone who desires to learn more about maintaining good health or gaining relief from problems or ailments in a natural way.
The entire book is very logically sequenced and well written. Beginning with the introduction which takes the reader on an exciting tour from the origins of Thai Massage through various aspects of theoretical and practical knowledge, all superbly illustrated with clear diagrams of meridians and pressure points, the book continues in a logical and concise journey which even an uninitiated reader can follow easily. The next two major parts of Beatrice's book, "Thai Massage" -- the more than 100 Massage Exercises, and the Do It Yourself section that follows -- are excellently written with brief clear descriptions accompanied by have large photos which show with great clarity how the procedures are done both by a practitioner, and on oneself. Excellent both for those who like to know what they can expect if they go to a practitioner and for those who enjoy experimenting with good techniques for helping themselves. Thai Massage by Beatrice Avraham is the best book on massage technique I have ever read and is a must-have for anyone who is interested in taking responsibility for their own health, and also an excellent gift for all occasions and all ages. |
