An Essential Guide to Thai Yoga Massage, January 18, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Thai Massage: Sacred Body Work (Avery Health Guides) (Paperback)
Ananda Apfelbaum has clearly spent years studying and practicing all forms of massage, and in particular, Thai Yoga Massage. She has taken the knowledge she gained through her studies with master healer Pichest Boonthumme and made it clear and accessible for experienced therapists and newcomers alike. The book is an excellent reference guide. Firstly, it explains in detail the origins of Thai Massage and its connection with Buddhism. Then, fully illustrated with clear photographs, it gives step by step, detailed instructions for sitting, supine and side line positions. Ananda has taken great care to elaborate on the anatomy and physiology of the human body as a foundation for learning and understanding the lines and pressure points unique to Thai Massage. Well written and full of excellent photographs, this book is like a mini workhshop in itself. It is an essential read for people looking for a complete guide to Thai Yoga Massage or for those looking to add to their collection of health and wellness resources.

learning thai yoga massage, April 29, 2005
This review is from: Thai Massage: Sacred Body Work (Avery Health Guides) (Paperback)
Before I began my journey with Thai Yoga massage I looked at a number of books on the market. When I found this book I knew it was the right one for me. The text is easy to read and understand and the illustrations are clear. Miss. Apfelbaum is someone who is able to articulate a bodywork treatment that is complex, beautiful and above all healing. I would advise anyone who wishes to learn Thai Yoga massage to use this book as a tool. She also has a website, a video (that is great for when practicing at home) and does workshops.

Best Instructional Thai Massage book!, March 31, 2005
This review is from: Thai Massage: Sacred Body Work (Avery Health Guides) (Paperback)
This is the clearest instructional book of any bodywork book I've read. The photographs and explainations really take you through step by step. The author is obviously very experienced in this form of bodywork, but has the ability to break down the moves accompanied by clear photographs. Thank you Ms. Apfelbaum for coming out with a great book. Can't wait to buy the video also!

Excellent workbook, April 7, 2005
This review is from: Thai Massage: Sacred Body Work (Avery Health Guides) (Paperback)
Ananda's description of Sacred Bodywork is beautifully illustrated, explained and documented. She has captured the essence of this art and science.I can attest to this as I was with her in Thailand one of the many years that she studied with Pichest Boonhumme. She gathers in this book her years of studying, practicing and teaching Thai Yoga Massage. She combines her deep spiritual awareness with a detailed knowledge of anatomy and physiology in a way that elucidates the therapeutic value of her craft. Its usefulness is enhanced when used with the video tapes although one could learn without the visual aide. I do use this book in my own teaching and practice and am appreciative of its authentic, detailed methodology.I highly recommend it.

Excellent book- Thai Massage Sacred Bodywork (Apfelbaum), April 5, 2005
This review is from: Thai Massage: Sacred Body Work (Avery Health Guides) (Paperback)
This book is extremely useful. The photos are wonderfully instructive and easy to apply. The book is clearly written by an author who is a master in her field. Each page is extensively and carefully crafted to share the fascinating tradition of Thai massage and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Massage Therapists and lay people alike, I believe will enjoy it as well.
My rating is 5 stars!

A tremendous contribution to Thai Massage, October 24, 2006
This review is from: Thai Massage: Sacred Body Work (Avery Health Guides) (Paperback)
This is a must have for every practitioner of Thai Massage. Ananda is a gifted master of Thai Massage and has done a great service sharing her vast knowledge of this healing art. The photographs showing the wide variety of moves unique to this modality are easy to understand. The accompanying text is well written with precise descriptions of the techniques, the anatomy and how it is affected, and valuable information about the Sen lines I have not found elsewhere. It is meticulous. I love this book and often use it for reference. Along with Asokananda's books, this is the best Thai Massage book available.

Ok, November 14, 2008
This review is from: Thai Massage: Sacred Body Work (Avery Health Guides) (Paperback)
I recently received my book in the mail. The weirdest thing, when I was deciding on which thai yoga book to buy, I read various reviews on various books. Since returning to the site, I don't see a single review on this book?? Maybe it's listed twice? Either way, I think the book is fairly good. If your more of a "visual" person much like myself I would recommend buying something different. Immediately, I was disappointed by the illustration (photos) in this book !!! They pretty much appear as if someone xeroxed them to the point much of the photo quality has been lost. Also, their in black and white. I would recommend this book to someone, as an additional reference to other books, dvd's, and resources on thai yoga.
