Product Description

Thai sticky rice (also known as \"sweet rice\" or \"glutinous rice\")is a tasty, sweet rice that does a great job of filling the stomach--but be careful not to eat too much... According to Thai tradition sticky rice can put you fast asleep if more than a couple handfuls are eaten. It is meant to be formed into small balls that you make with your fingers. Then dip it in spicy sauce and let it soak up like a sponge. See recipes below for meals served with sticky rice. Widely enjoyed throughout Thailand and Laos, sticky rice is gaining popularity as more people come to know it's unique delicous taste. We're currently offering a low price for a convenient 5 lb bag of Thai sticky rice, and you can purchase the essential cookware for about $25.00. Over forty years ago, I ran into sticky rice in Thailand. It was too filling for me to eat a serving, until I became accustomed to it. I had to learn how to eat it, too. Then I moved further northeast in Thailand where this sticky rice was THE rice of the area. It was everywhere. I ate it most days of the week. I got hooked. I married a Thai and her family joked that I was Lao because I like sticky rice so much. I learned to cook it and I love sticky rice with the foods I learned to eat along with it; green papaya salad, larb, grilled chicken. Unfortunately, I can't say anything in particular about this brand of sticky rice over any other. It's all sticky rice to me, as long as it's real Thai sticky rice, which it is. Beware of thinking sushi rice is the same -- it's not. People refer to sushi rice as sticky rice and sometimes refer to long grain rice cooked without rinsing as sticky rice. This Thai/Lao sticky rice is a short grain, very glutenous (it has no actual gluten but has the behavior of gluten) it's from a short plant with a short growing season. From seed, it's a whole different kind of rice from any long grain or medium grain rice. It is much starchier and is cooked by methods meant to retain the starch, such as steaming in a bamboo basket over, not in, boiling water. The rice gets steamed without anything leaching out into water. This is also the rice for making the famous dish, sticky rice and mango. Steam the sticky rice, stir in sweetened coconut milk, serve with sliced mango.

After eating Thai sticky rice at our local Thai restaurant, I wanted to be able to enjoy this tasty dish at home. I purchased the steamer, basket, cheese cloth and rice kit. It arrived quickly and carefully packaged. Complete instructions were included, which enabled me to make great sticky rice on my first try. Import Foods also offers a full list of Thai receipes, along with a list of the ingredients needed, and the ability to simply click and order the needed items. They offer an easy to use web buying experience and excellent quality products. I will definitely order from them again.

I was nervous about preparing this without a steamer, but it cooked up well in my rice cooker using the normal proportion of water + same cook time as with normal rice.

I'm having some of this for lunch & wow. I'm not a great cook but this makes me look like a chef!. This rice, first batch, is fluffy & light, The aroma & taste are light & fresh like rice from the Asian market. The whole kitchen smells delicious. This rice doesn't seem even distantly related to the usual grocery store rice.
The product is very clean in a beautifully prepared/sealed bag.
Will order this again!

Product is good and came in a timely matter. The price was way higher than at the Asian store. I found it for a 1/3rd of the price. So I can buy 3 5lb bags at the store compared to this price for the same amount.

I love this rice, and store. I ordered this rice and it came on time and was packaged well. I had no problem with it sticking to everything, if it clumps up and sticks to everything then it probably wasn't cooked properly, and shipping to Alaska is always expensive, which is why everything is expensive there.

I lived in Thailand for 2 years and this taste just like the rice my mother-in-law would make all the time. I like it very much, it reminds me of my time in Thailand. Cook the rice properly, you can watch a video at the venders site ([...])and you will enjoy the sticky rice just like I do. There are also many other Thai recipe videos at this site also.

I have no problems with this rice whatsoever, the only reason this review isn't 5 stars is because it took almost two weeks to get to me. very tasty though!
