I ordered this book without knowing too much about Thai Yoga Massage. I also ordered another book on the same subject. This book is far superior as it accentuates the stance of the therapist which is of upmost importance in doing Thai Yoga Massage. The other book failed to say much about that aspect. Kam has a great reputation for having lots of integrity. I'm signing up to take one of his workshops. I highly recommend this book!

kam thye chow brings his expertise and compassion to print! this book is more than nuts and bolts how to do it guide - it opens up the world of thai massage for the reader. kam thye is a great teacher of thai massage and his doesn't disappoint here. the postures are clear, the practitioners dance is well described and the connection to compassionate living is made.even if you aren't practicing thai massage it is a great complement to yoga practice, other massage practice or just to life!

This review is from: Thai Yoga Massage: A Dynamic Therapy for Physical Well-being and Spiritual Energy (Hardcover)
This therapy for physical well-being and spiritual energy tells how to practice Thai yoga massage, covering the history and techniques of the ancient bodywork therapy and using step-by-step photos to explain postures for a one and two-hour full-body massage. Thai Yoga Massage offers an intriguing discourse on a little-covered technique.

(I currently have the German version of this book, but I assume that the English one includes the same info.) I have just finished a course in Thai massage, and the traditional technique, as taught by Asokananda (aka Harald Brust), the man who brought Thai massage to the Western world, does NOT begin in the sitting position. Asokananda teaches the importance of beginning a massage at the feet, and then working upwards. From what I understand, this is important because Thai massage balances the energy in a body and the flow must go upwards through the chakras to the head. That said, this book includes some excellent photographs and the rest of its content is extremely helpful to anyone learning Thai massage. I think that Asokananda's book should still be the starting point for everyone, though.

I'm a massage therapist thinking about taking a Thai-Yoga massage class to add to my modalities. I thought I'd buy this book/DVD set and try it out before I invested the considerable time and money into taking a class. After having reviewed the book and and DVD all I can say is ...WOW. The DVD is great for learniong a basic routine and the book supports it well. The info is presented in a clear and concise manner. The price on this set is lower than most other books and/or DVD out there and and is filled with lots of great info. I would highly recommend this to anyone considering learning this great modality to use with friends and family.

The book is pretty good, the cd is o.k. Most of the information in the book is not on the c.d., which was dissapointing. One this is to read it and another is to have someone show it. The book is clear and to the point, which is a plus. It's great for someone who is starting to learn about the poses and the energy lines.

This review is from: Thai Yoga Massage: A Dynamic Therapy for Physical Well-Being and Spiritual Energy (Paperback)
I've been practicing Thai Yoga Massage for the last two years and I thought the classic approach of Kam Chow was lacking. I felt as though the book would be great for someone completely unfamiliar with the practice but too basic to teach me anything new. As well known as Kam Chow is in the Thai Massage world, I expected a more comprehensive approach for beginning to intermediate Thai Massage bodyworkers. I found Kira Balaskas' Thai Yoga Massage: How to Use Traditional Thai Massage, Yoga, and Breathwork for Healing and Spiritual Harmony, refreshing, clear and helpful.Thai Yoga Massage: How to use Traditional Thai Massage, Yoga, and Breathwork for Healing and Spiritual Harmony
