5.0 out of 5 stars Thames & Kosmos Chem Set
We bought this chemistry set for our 11 year old grandson who is very interested in "how things work". There are sufficient basic experiments to keep him entertained for many hours and to teach him the basic principles he will use in later experiments in science class. He is currently studying at the 8th grade level in chemistry and the product, though a toy, kept his...

2.0 out of 5 stars Actual product dont meet the hype

First off after opening the box and reading thru the list of experiments I was somewhat disappointed. It just seemed a bit off from what was claimed on the box and product description. There are only 4 chemicals in it.
We anyway did the first three experiments. last weekend when started on the 4th one my son pointed out there was nothing in the litmus powder...

Thames & Kosmos CHEM C500 I bought this for my 7 year old son for Christmas. He put a "Science Kit" on his wishlist and said he wanted to mix things and do experiments. This was perfect. It does need to be done with an adult as the vials are glass and it uses real acids and bases but nothing is dangerous. Great into for kids to learn to love Chemistry.

I asked my 8 yr old what he wanted to study next in science (we homeschool) and he said Chemistry. We found this kit and thought it was a reasonable price. Both my 8 & 10 year old boys are having fun as we work through the experiments in this kit. i got a few books on chemistry to go with it and we have science covered for this month! The Periodic Table: Elements with Style!Chemistry (DK Eyewitness Books)Basher: Chemistry: Getting a Big Reaction

This kit is C500, and it is good as an introduction to chemistry. However, the sad part is that experiments chemicals only last for the duration of the project. If you want to do them multiple times; you must buy multiple sets!

For kids, or adults just starting out learning the difficulties of Chemistry and its elements or way things work and won't go on after this: Go for this kit!

All expirements work if followed correctly. Some may work better for you if they are poured down a sink rather than followed out in a test tube.

We anyway did the first three experiments. last weekend when started on the 4th one my son pointed out there was nothing in the litmus powder bottle. I first thought he was not looking right but sure enough it was indeed empty/clean. I could not bear to see the disappointment on my son's face :-( None of hte next couple of experiments could be done w/o litmus.

So now I have to call someone and see if they can replace it or would take it back.

If you have a child that is in to science, this is the kit to get them! My son loves it! Some of the experiments do require adult supervision, but, for the most part, a 11-12 year old child can do these with minimal supervision!

Dear Friend,
I have Played with my son age 8 with this Set, and immediately found Missing information and Tools to be able to do experiments. I end up having to by a new set in Italy, and some measuring cups in order to follow .
If you happen to be Italian, for 18 Eoros you can get a very good chemist set from CLEMENTONI.

1.0 out of 5 stars Garbage products, January 21, 2011
all kosmos and thames products i purchased were garbage. I would not buy them again, or buy from amazon again if this is the garbage you sell. I sent an email to amazon on the matter and received an irrevelant response.

K and t products are cheap, overpricec, I was embarassed to give them for christma.

amazons irrelevant response to my emails will dissuade me from purchasing from amazon if i can help it.
