Delightful Story, Beautifully Drawn,
By
This review is from: Thank You Bear (Hardcover)
With its refreshing, pared down style and a simple but deeply resonant message, Thank You Bear is a delight for children as well as the grown-ups in their lives. Touching on important themes like generosity, diversity and self-doubt, it is ultimately a beautiful tale of friendship and the depths of the heart. A Must for your child's collection; one to keep and pass on. My children adore it.

Lovely book with a nice lesson,

Thank You Bear teaches the timeless lesson that we should be happy with what we have, and not be concerned with what other people tell us we need. It tells this lesson, but not in a pedantic way. The story is simple and fun, and the illustrations and characters are wonderfully appealing. My kids, 8 and 4, both loved it!

Pros:
-Great artwork -Nice story -Good lesson for kids to learn Cons: -Pages difficult to turn -Easy to damage pages and dust cover The first copy of this book I received I had to send back. The pages were not fully cut and some were still attached to each other. Amazon is always great handling returns though! This book has wonderful artwork and a nice flowing story! The lesson of saying thank you and being kind to those around you is a necessary one! My only problem is for being a "kids" book, it is not very durable. The dust cover is removable and the pages are very thin and difficult to turn. So when we read this book, I hold it and turn the pages while my 19 month old lessons from a little bit of a distance.

I just read this book with my 2 1/2 year old. It is simple, beautiful, and has lessons for children at multiple ages. My 9-month-old sat on my lap as I read to his sister, and we pointed out the different animals on each page and named them. It gives him a chance to practice pointing to different animals and as he develops he'll be able to practice saying the names. For my 2-year-old, it was a book of mystery where she could guess what was in the box as each of the animals on the pages looked inside. We talked about what would fit in the box, what the animals might be seeing... it was a great mystery for her. And at the end, we were able to talk about what you say when someone things so much of you that they give you a gift. As she gets old, we can talk about the deeper meaning of why the animals in the story don't support bear's gift choice for mouse, and what the beauty of the gift is.
I'd highly recommend this book. Gorgeous illustrations and wonderful story.

Truly Gorgeous Book,
This review is from: Thank You Bear (Hardcover)
I can't speak highly enough of this book. I discovered it in a bookshop, read it and bought it on the spot. I can't believe I hadn't heard anything about it. If you only buy one book for your toddler buy this one. Beautiful message. Beautifully illustrated. Greg Foley is a talent I'm sure we will be hearing a lot from in the future.

My 2 1/2 year old son and I read this book last night for the first time. He thought it was a great story. He enjoyed pointing out the animals and talking about their expressions, " Mommy, he looks sad" then at the end "Oh Mommy, Bear is HAPPY!!!" yay! I am glad I bought this book for him. Its a sweet and simple story that teaches a lesson in life, "its all in how you look at it" and it really is the thought that counts.

This delightful little book brings issues we all face in life to light. It's short, simple to read but has so much depth. It's great for using with adult learners as well as the very young.

a simple tale of friendship & giving,
This review is from: Thank You Bear (Hardcover)
Bear finds a box and thinks it's the greatest thing he ever found but the other animals think otherwise except for his friend Mouse.
Greg E. Foley sure knows how to capture the reader's imagination and curiosity with another simple tale of friendship and giving.

Thankful for this story,
This review is from: Thank You Bear (Hardcover)
Everything from the simple and sweet story to the simple and sweet illustrations captivated me from the beginning and warmed my heart! I love words and illustrations that can use so little and yet convey so much!
Bear wants to give Mouse an empty box, (he thinks it will be the perfect present for Mouse. So happy to have found such a wonderful gift, Bear shares his idea with other animals, but they don't seem to think it's such a great gift. And, after a while, Bear begins to wonder if maybe he was wrong. A great story in believing in yourself, seeing the specialness in the simple things, and the wonderfulness of friendship, I highly recommend this book! I've also read "Don't Worry Bear" which was just as fantastic! |
