Rayner W. Hesse, Jr., an ordained Episcopal priest for twenty years, has served at churches in Hartsdale, Yonkers, and New Rochelle, New York.

More About the Author

Life takes strange twists and turns. My childhood was spent in the rural community of East Schodack, NY, across the Hudson River from Albany. After graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, I served on active duty in naval aviation for 7 years (then served additional years in the Naval Reserve). Afterward, I began my publishing career, first with the Naval Institute Press, then Liguori Publications, Fordham University Press, Praeger Publishers, and now ABC-CLIO. I published my first book in 1997, and I continue to have a great interest in the mystical lives of the saints; but I have a deepening interest in the sacredness of nature and the spirituality (hospitality) of food.

Although this book has been out a while, it is a great handbook for anyone who is clergy or who wants to hold a ceremony for a treasured animal. An Episcopal Deacon and committed to healing in all areas of God's creation, I already knew, possessed and used this book. I purchased this edition as a gift to a friend who is a good, caring veterinarian but, more than that, has undertaken studies dealing with acupuncture as a potential healing avenue with animals. I felt this book would be an additional resource for her expanded journey. She loves it!
