Thank You Prayer by Josephine Page is a simple way to teach young children about prayer and thankfulness. The rhyming book doesn't have a storyline; instead, it's a written prayer that contains thanks for food, "for loving me," "the world so sweet," birds, family, and children everywhere.


What I like: The illustrations, by Caroline Jayne Church, show friendly animals in vivid color. The cover of the book is padded cardboard, and the pages are thin cardboard - more durable than regular paper pages, but more like an adult book than the thick cardboard of a board book. (My 18 month old hasn't destroyed the pages yet!)


What I dislike: The prayer does not begin with a salutation (like "Dear God"), nor does it end with an "amen." Parents can easily add these on, though. I do wish the text were a bit more "deep," but the wonderful illustrations really help make up for this; my daughter's attention is held rapt when I read this book to her.


Overall Rating: Good.

My mother bought this book for my daughter Hannah who is 2. She loves it and we read it each night. She has memorised it and reads it to us. It is very simply put and just lovely. I have to say it is my all time favourite book. I am ordering 2 copies of it so I can give them to friends. I think it is a must.

I have been reading this to my 22 month old since infancy. He loves it! It is very nicely written and the illustrations are great and my son loves pointing at the pictures and identifying so it turns out to be educational as well. We actually ended up buying a second one because it got ripped from so much use. It is now committed to memory and that is the prayer that his dad and I say to him as we put him in his crib at night.

A sweet little book of thank yous, based on the traditional child's prayer that starts, "Thank you for the food we eat,/ Thank you for the world so sweet." Illustrated with lively animals in cheerful bold colors. Ages 2-6.

We read to our 16-month-old son every night before bed (and have since he was a few months old). This is his FAVORITE book and we must read it every single night. We love that it introduces the thought of being thankful to God for everything, and I like that it's conversational. (You don't HAVE to say, "Dear God" at the beginning of a prayer - a prayer is simply talking to God.)

My son really loves the illustrations and likes to point out different things ("ball!" "dog!"). I'm actually going to buy another copy so I can frame some of the pages and hang them in his room. I adore this little book.

We have so much to be thankful for with our new little one coming into our lives. A great book to start teaching these priciples to the little one.

We purchased this book for our 2 year old. It is great for that age group, short and to the point. The books help to educate kids on prayer and all the many blessings.

I read this to my son almost every day (19 month old). It's one of the few books he will actually sit all the way through. He has also learned to say Amen at the end - very cute! I also love that the book is laminated and rip-proof.

This Thank You prayer is simply perfect. It's non-denominational, although it does mention God a few times, it's perfect for all beliefs. My daughter just turned 4 and this is a perfect book for a new reader. The words are short and simple, she reads to us! Perfect bedtime book.

This book is a cute first prayer book. I wish it were a bit longer; it is only 14 pages (7 really because one "thank-you God" takes 2 pages). The pages are a too flimsy for my daughter to turn though. I would think the makers of this book would have used the thicker board-style paper.
