The hard drive is built in, but this model allows you to use SD Memory cards as well.

i dont think so, you could use cards though. the hard drive is big, doubt you will run out of space.

There is no obvious way to remove the hard drive, so it wasn't intended for it. Plus I am sure the interface and settings are all run off of there, so you couldn't just plug another drive in and have it go. I record on the highest settings and it is still a lot of space, and then of course you can swap the SD cards as already mentioned. I just transfer my videos to local HDDs connected to my PC.
