That Championship Season: American theatre at its best., March 4, 2000
This review is from: That Championship Season. (Paperback)
Jason Miller's Pulizer Prize-winning play "That Championship Season" tells the story of five friends from high school who get together at their coach's home to celebrate the 15th anniversery of their high school basketball team's championship. Throughout the course of the night, as the men get drunker and drunker, certain secrets come out that threaten to ruin the bond that these men have had over the years. Miller writes with such enthusiasm and blistering reality that the reader is in awe as he flips the pages. He gives us characters that are believable and likeable. Anyone who is a fan of cut-throat theatre and loves to read a good play should go and buy "That Championship Season." It is Miller's only real triumph in the theatre world, but it makes a strong statement as to the condition of the human spirit.
