5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Album, January 22, 2011
This review is from: That Couldve Gone Better (Audio CD)
A friend of mine went to an Eric Hutchinson concert when he very first started touring and told me about it. I sought out a live recording of him singing Rock and Roll, and I immediately became a fan. I got a used copy of this CD used on half.com for about $15, and I listened to it very frequently. A lot of my friends, however, had never heard of the CD and were shocked when they found out that I had it.

I'm really glad that Eric blew up and became wildly popular, but I feel that lately he has been releasing album after album of the same music. I know that he's working on releasing a new album right now, but Sounds Like This, Sounds Like This EP, Sounds Like This EP2, etc all sound the same. He doesn't have the same vigor that he had in "That Could've Gone Better" and "Before I Sold Out."

This doesn't take away from the fact that "That Could've Gone Better" is a FANTASTIC album - one of my favorites even. The recording session is a very raw and intimate one. He recorded this at a time when he was discovering himself as an artist, and his songs are almost introspective, as if he's asking himself where his musical inspiration is. It's a really cool thing to hear him in this phase, on this album.

If you're a Jason Mraz, Eric Hutchinson, or simply acoustic guitar + voice fan, this album is for you. I believe this is the best album Eric has ever put out. It's not like the Killers, where they released an AMAZING album, and then proceeded to produce some awful stuff afterword; Eric simply stepped back a bit after this album. HIs new stuff is still good, but this album is great.

It's a cool thing that this album is so understated and not very well known about. It's not available on Amazon MP3 or iTunes - only available in CD format. If you're a true Eric Hutchinson fan, or simply a fan of good, original music, you need to snatch this up while it's still available.
