5.0 out of 5 stars They don't make em like this anymore, July 7, 2000
This review is from: That Dog (Audio CD)
In a word, fantastic. Just when you think you're gonna drown from all the polished AOR around, a band will rise and slap you in the face to teach you what music should be about. The main feature of this record is that the band recording were having FUN! They weren't planning a five album career and dollar spining tour, it is the sound of a band making the best album they can AND enjoying every second of it.

The songs are what hold this record together with 15 short sweet postpunkpowerpop explosions. Diamonds like 'Angel', 'This Boy' and `Zodiac`, really prove that That Dog are one of the Ninties great lost bands. Petra Haden's bass playing is some of the best I've ever heard, while Tony bangs the drumz to a new standard.

Believe me, you need to hear this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars hmmmmm, May 7, 2000

i bought this cd after only hearing "you are here" and after getting on this kick where i will only listen to female vocals. i don't regret it at all. the lyrics are not too terribly deep or anything, but i think i really like this cd because it is so much fun to sing along with! "old timer" is definatly a great song as is " raina" and "you are here" which shows the softer side of that dog. "paid programming" is a funny look at some of the things that those horrible shows have done to minds today! if you like singing and originality with the violin, this is definatly something you should look into getting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amongst the best, July 20, 2002

This album is one of the absolutely best pop-punk albums ever made. The whole package, the album features stunning vocal harmonization from Anna and the Hayden sisters. The tunes are both catchy and creative, ranging from the through-composed "Family functions" to a postmodern delight in "You are here." More important than any of this is the remarkable humility that are apparent in Anna's lyrics. Rather than attempting to write deep and profound poetry (and failing as most songwriters do), Anna writes lyrics that are clearly based on personal experience in a beautiful and humble way. If you do not own this album, you are missing out on one of the great pleasures of life. No hyperbole.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Greats, April 4, 2004

Top 5 best CD's in my vast collection, this one never gets old. The violen work from Petra Hayden is excellent and goes with the more traditional guitar rifs perfectly. The songs "Jump" and "She looks at me" are the best on the CD (She looks at me is my favorite song from ANYONE,-along with Glass Vase Cello Case from Tattle Tale, of course). I'm proud to have this out of print CD in my collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars refreshing and slightly original, May 11, 2011

I was recently exposed to the works of Mrs Anna Waronker.
Her musical style suits me. I decided to explore a little further and discovered that she was involved in this obscure rock band called That Dog.
I was not disappointed.
