This book is liberally documented and footnoted, and is truly a scholarly exposition. The title, "That every man be armed," is from a quotation attributed to Patrick Henry, the great American patriot from the Revolutionary War period, who said "The great object is, that every man be armed..." Halbrook includes many other quotations by historical figures from our past, as well as lengthy dissections of Supreme Court (and other court) cases, the "bottom line" of which is the inescapable conclusion that the founders of our Constitution, and especially our Bill of Rights, did indeed intend that it be the right of all American citizens to own and carry upon their persons, personal firearms.
