PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

The beloved Matrix of Destiny series continues with the exciting tale of the beautiful feline shapeshifter Soosha. The Familiar woman yearns for exotic adventure, and must defy her king's orders to stay planetside. She sets off on a secret escapade to discover new worlds. Soon, her journey leads her to a mysterious land– and a very compelling stranger named Daxan.

Soosha tried to catch her breath as she looked up into the face of her decisive captor.
She confronted masculine features of perfect angles and hardened edges. Golden, serious eyes framed by thick, ebony lashes. And firm lips tilted by sensual secrets that begged to be bitten into release.
Soosha’s own lips parted in breathless response.
The man’s hair fell far below his shoulders; the strands were twisted from scalp to ends into long, handsome locks that were woven-bound throughout with black leather laces. Beaded coils hung at the ends. His hair color matched his eyes; yet, its true tone was difficult to tell in the weave of his hair. She suspected the strong sun of lightening some of the strands; for the golden color shaded from dark to light.
He was magnificient.
And since she came from a race that produced males of staggering beauty that was saying much.
His golden eyes– quite breathtaking, really, though they were both the same color– sharpened into hard slivers of disapproval.
Soosha rather liked that. To a cat such as she, such a stern expression could only be an invitation to come and play.

Before the night is through, their passionate encounter will make Daxan beg for more of THAT FAMILIAR TOUCH. . .

But his uncontrollable desire for the Familiar girl will shortly be put to the test when the fearsome Charl warrior known as Traed, along with her enraged, snarling brother show up on his doorstep to hunt Soosha down and bring her home.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quite happy with it., January 16, 2005
This review is from: That Familiar Touch (Paperback)
First of all, I wasn't disappointed in this book -- quite the opposite in fact. The main story is set in the Matrix of Destiny universe, and it expands quite a bit on the new political situation and the conspiracy revealed in the previous book, Mine to Take.

Surprisingly, this time around the love story is told from the perspective of a Familiar woman, and while the hero didn't feel as compelling to me as Traed or Rejar (he was, in fact, rather generic), the heroine more than makes up for it. Her behaviour is very much that of a cat, but it doesn't feel exaggerated or out of place. Instead, I found myself treating her antics with the same indulgence and exasperated fondness I tend to display towards my own cats.

Numerous guest appearances by some of my favourite characters (Yaniff, Traed and Rejar to mention a few) and quite a bit of backstory and plot development, not to mention foreshadowing, have added to my enjoyment of the book and contributed to making it a necessary link in the Matrix of Destiny story. By no means can this book be considered a filler -- it really is a worthwhile addition to this particular fictional universe.

Kirkpatrick's Woods (the second, much shorter story) is more of an experiment than everything else, but I was amazed at how well-written it is. Beautifully written, in fact, and all shades of unconventional. It left me with the feeling that Dara is a much, much better writer than I originally thought.

So all in all, despite a few flaws, I can say that in my eyes this book is heaps better than most romance fiction on the market today and definitely well worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected or needed!, October 13, 2004
This review is from: That Familiar Touch (Paperback)
After waiting two long years for Ms. Joy's book, it did not satisfy my need for a very long visit with my favorite author and the world that she has created for her many fans. Dara could not write a bad book in the dark, and this was no different. What she did write was Dara at her best, it was a delight to read. The problem, each story left you hanging, neither were long enough! As short stories they were great, but this was not what many of her fans wanted. We wanted the long involved stories we are use to getting with this author. I was dissapointed only in the lenght of each story. Dara Joy's books are the only ones that I will not give or lend to others and this book is no exception. I stell have nine more times to read it before it goes in my bookcase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Read, October 13, 2004

This review is from: That Familiar Touch (Paperback)
Once again Dara Joy has outdone herself in the continuation of the Matrix Series. I just received my book and read it in one sitting. That Familiar Touch is a book that Dara fans have come to expect, full of romance, sexy scenes that burn the pages, and laughter that has you laughing throughout the book. Dara introduces us to the story of Soosha, a female familiar, who defies Taj Gian edict not to leave the Familiar home world of M'yan and goes out in serch of adventure despite the dangers. She also introduces us to Daxan, a strong male with secrets of his own that will leave your jaw dropping when you find out who he really is. Readers will also enjoy the quest of Tread and Soosha's brother Brygar. This quest is so funny that I was laughing on the airplane while reading it that several people asked me what was so funny *g*. I tell you what I told them, BUY Dara's book That Familiar Touch and you will see why she has so many loyal fans throughout the world just waiting for her next book. Can't wait for her next book, I hope it's not another two years.
