Great Read!!,
By Kim Dufoulon (Northern Ireland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: That First Christmas (Paperback)
While driving home for the holidays Meredith crashes her car avoiding an animal on the road. When her cell phone fails to work she has to climb the hillside and stop a passing car. But when an Adonis comes to her rescue Meredith passes out, and wakes in his cabin - naked!! At first she freaks out and pleas to go home - which is impossible because of the snow storm - but the more time she spends with the Adonis the more she likes him. Her attraction is instant, and her seduction skills suck, but it doesn't stop Meredith getting what she wants - Travis!! Sadly, when the snow melts and Meredith admits her love for her mountain man made by the Gods she discovers some shocking truths which break her heart and make her flee. I really like this girl. The way she adapts to life in the cabin was great - considering her dad's rich beyond words. No spoilt child here!! And of course the way she was with Travis melted my heart - they are perfect together.
Travis has lived alone on his mountain top for nearly six years. He's been hiding away following an incident which nearly seen him in prison. When returning home from the village one night he comes across a beautiful woman who has been injured in an accident. His attraction to the young beauty is instant, but when Travis discovers her identity he closes up and tries to keep his distance till the snow clears. Tries!! Meredith is nothing like the woman he's meet before, and regardless of her age and parentage he falls for her. Things are going well and Travis can see himself spending the rest of his life with Meredith, that is of course until she discovers his reasons for being in the mountains!! I love this man. He's just so vulnerable, despite his obvious strength, especially when it comes to Meredith and fear of her rejection. Aww... I loved this book!! It is such a sweet love story, with a little emotion turmoil, self doubt and heart ache thrown in to make it that more exciting. Travis had some major emotional caca to deal with regarding his past, and the future he craved but wouldn't allow himself. And of course when Meredith comes into his life it makes everything all that more complicated for him - he feels unworthy of her love!! What's that all about!!? He's a great guy, he soooo deserves her!! In my opinion anyway. Then there's Meredith with her own insecurities about men and how Travis will respond to her attentions. I felt for both of them, and you will to when you read it - wait and see. Anywho, there are so many great scenes in here. I loved the way Meredith crowned Travis 'Adonis' and tried to seduce him using her wee drop-her-towel trick, it was classic... lol. I laughed so hard. And then again even harder when she covered the Deer's head because it was 'watching her'... lol. I also loved the part when they were just about to share their first kiss and all this crazy stuff goes down and Travis gets hurt - I was so not expecting that by the way. Of course this is when Meredith realises that she loves Travis, but is afraid to make a move for fear of rejection. What's funny is that he's sitting there brooding over not being able to be with her at the same time. I swear my chest actually ached for them at times like this. Aww... I have to say their love scene was amazing!! It was so sweet!! Travis was all for being with Meredith until he discovered her wee secret, and then he was gonna do the gentlemanly thing a leave. However, when he told her to keep herself for someone special she told him he was the one. Aww... I melted!! He was so happy to hear her say that and it brought a tear to my eye. *sniff* The ending was also great. It made me cry, cheer, and shout at the book - my hubby totally thinks I'm insane now - well, even more so than before anyway... lol. Travis is such a hunk, and his determination to get Meredith back was amazing. I swooned over him at one stage. *sigh* Anywho, you'll so have to read the book yourself to see what I mean. Go on now, grab a copy.

The story was well enough but the grammar was terrible. There were periods in the middle of sentences throughout the book, letters mixed up in words (begin-being) and the word "whole" used as in a "Travis left a whole in her heart". If you can get past the annoying and distracting grammar mistakes, it was a good, quick read.
