Editorial Reviews

From Kirkus Reviews

"A truly imaginative, unique page-turner that will leave readers wanting more."-Kirkus

Review

"Overall, this book is a good story,...A narrator is the most important character in any fiction work, but in this book the narrator has no name, at least not one this reviewer has ever seen - because this narrator is unique." Hollywood Book Reviews

"[B]ooks in the Count of Monte Cristo series, this one included, are fun, mysterious, and have wonderful over-the-top heroes that are a joy to follow. I truly look forward to finding out where Zaydee's story will take her, and how That Girl Started Her Own Country will merge into the rest of Holy Ghost Writer's series." It's one of those books that once you start reading, you really don't want to put down.

Great characters (Steven and Zaydee are well developed) and if you're a fan of thrillers and suspense (like myself), this book is why you read them.

The plot of the book is one that grabs the reader's attention from the very beginning and doesn't let go until the end.

I was not familiar with the Holy Ghost Writer until this book but certainly, I will have to check out other works by HGW. Zaydee is a very slick character (and she's female, which makes it that much more interesting). Great characters (Steven and Zaydee are well developed) and if you're a fan of thrillers and suspense (like myself), this book is why you read them.

If you are a diehard fan of Steig Larsson books then you look no more because you are on the right page. This book satiates the needs of Dumas and Larsson fans alike. The spectacularly stunning international drama has an intriguing female protagonist who is not the usual damsel in distress but the headstrong, fearless, intelligent, powerful and manipulative woman just like the protagonist in the Steig Larsson books. Her demeanor while held at the U.S Federal prison is commendable. 'That Girl started her own country' has enough twists and turns to keep on the edge of your seat and also offers a hint on the identity of the author, 'The Holy Ghost Writer'.

This masterfully plotted story gets creepier with every revelation making you hungry for more. And as the author promised, I eagerly wait for the seventh sequel in this series and know it will only get better. The word play of the author is also undoubtedly good and must mention. Don't miss this one. The plot provides you with an unwavering suspense till the very last page. Go for it!

I must say that I really enjoyed reading "The Girl Who Started Her Own Country", what a great tittle for a book! It is one of those books that once you get into the flow of it, you will not want to stop reading and I think that I may have never read a book as fast as I did with this one. The storyline is fantastic and it kept me griped from the start all throughout the whole book. I truly got lost in this book which is a thing that rarely happens to me. My only wish is that this book was longer as I didn't want it do end. It is a great book which captured my imagination with an awesome adventure storyline and plot.

I'm a pretty big fan of crime/thriller type novels. This one is right up there with as one of my favorites. The pacing of the book was great, and I found it hard to put down once I got started. Characters were well thought out, and the writing was terrific. I highly recommend picking this one up. Give it a shot and you won't be disappointed.

After reading the first book from this author earlier this summer and deciding he was one to follow, I downloaded and read the sequel this weekend. It wasn't disappointing. The feelings of mystery and suspense are loaded into this book, along with several twists and turns that I hadn't seen coming from just reading his first book. It was as enjoyable to read as book 1.

If you're looking for a book to keep your attention and satisfy your need for suspense and intrigue then this one will do it. Waiting on the author's third book.

One of the best books I have ever read. So thrilling, that I had to read it at once.

That Girl Started Her Own Country comes with breath-taking adventure, that connects a nowadays story with the one of the Monte Christo.

I really recommend this book to anyone seeking adventure and thrilling story!

Holy Ghost Writer has really done a great job on this book. It's a suspenseful crime novel that will keep you interested until the very last page. Once I started reading, I could not put this one down! Its a great follow up to the Sultan of Monte Cristo.

Zaydee is everything a man could want; sexy, smart, and mysterious. She is a feminist on a mission, and plans to start her own country with those whom she feels have been abused by the same system that abused her. She is introduced as the woman from "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo". The novel includes hactivists, some high tech gadgets, and some interesting aspects of the law. I was not disappointed.

The relationship with Steve Larson shows a soft side to an otherwise intense and calculating woman and nicely weaves the pieces of this puzzle together. She will help him uncover a conspiracy that will rock the scientific world, and she will protect him at all costs.

A great read, very hard to put down once started. Exciting page turner. Definitely will read the rest of the series.

"That Girl Started Her Own Country" is a sequel to "The Sultan of Monte Cristo," which I thought was a fun, light read that made me think about the characters of "The Count of Monte Cristo" in a fun new way. As soon as I started reading, I realized "That Girl" doesn't pick up where "Sultan" left off, but instead is far in the future from the adventures of Dantes, Haydee, and Mercedes.

This novel focuses on the adventures of Zaydee, an "international playgirl" who is also an expert hacker. She's had her face changed by plastic surgery, and her fingerprints transformed into intricate code, but she can't change her heart--not matter how far she travels or what she gets involved in, she still has feelings for an old flame, investigative journalist Steven Larson.

When she gets tangled up in securities fraud, Zaydee lands in jail under the name "Princess Jane Doe," making a host of female inmate friends along the way. It's in jail that she decides she'd like to become landed royalty and sets upon the idea to buy a small island and create her own nation. Other subplots include her trial, her attempts to protect Steven from an expose that will go awry, and experiments to speed evolution in humans, among others.

I found "That Girl Started Her Own Country" to be harder to follow than "The Sultan of Monte Criste," primarily because there were so many new characters introduced for which I didn't already have a backstory. I did like Zaydee's devotion to Steven, but wish we had more backstory on their relationship so that I could understand their connection and why she would go to such great lengths to provide him with protection and gifts.
