I love this movie and this story about real-life historical figures.

However, the quality of the video on this DVD is really terrible. I have a 20 year old copy of this movie. which I taped from TV that is better quality than this DVD. A kid copying the movie to DVD at home in their garage would have done a better job.

The contrast is very dark. The film is old and scratchy. This truly looks like an old 16mm projector movie reel (like the films they show in grade school) which has been played too many times... and then someone tried to transfer it to DVD. I would be really amazed if this was made by an actual company rather than a one person business, working out of their home amd transfering this from some old film reel they salvaged like the ones the Navy used to trade between ships. This film was old enough, dark enough and scratchy enough to have been shown and abused for many years in this type of scenario.

It is a shame because I really like this movie and bought the DVD because I wanted a clean professional copy. This was not it.

This is a story of survival and romance, told very well. I had never seen it before, and it is a delightful surprise.

This is a nice DVD reissue of an old movie that hasn't been shown for years. I liked seeing Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier together. A nice love story, but probably not appealing to a younger audience because it lacks the high technology and action of current films. In other words, mainly for the older generation.

I'm the hugest fan of Vivien Leigh and I was missing this gem...and that is exactly what it is....a hidden gem. Vivien Leigh, one of the most underrated actresses whom most people think only did Gone With The Wind and Streecar Named Desire has more movies to her credit and this one deserves the credit. You can watch the wonderful chemistry between the real life romance of Vivling and Sir Olivier and it's amazing. There need to be more Viv movies out on DVD for everyone to enjoy...bring it on!

Although this movie is not widely known today, it is without doubt an all-time classic. Superb performances by Vivien Leigh, Laurence Olivier, and all of the supporting cast. And the historically-accurate storyline is completely enthralling.

Alas, as noted by a previous reviewer, the quality of the film-to-dvd transfer is of such poor quality that the movie is barely viewalbe. It is an outright shame that "That Hamilton Woman" (aka "Lady Hamilton") is not availabe on a decent quality transfer! I first saw it on TCM, in which the quality was certainly acceptable: one would do better to record it on that channel the next time it is aired than buy this worthless copy!

Bottom line: 5 stars for the movie; 0 stars for the quality of this transfer.
