If you like the fantastic acting of Robert Mitchum, you are sure to love this collection. This guy sang like he acted, with that "I don't care really..." kind of laid-back attitude. If you like the fantastic acting of Robert Mitchum, you are sure to love this collection. This guy sang like he acted, with that "I don't care really..." kind of laid-back attitude. But you suspect he did care--very much--and his countless movie performances always were a testament to this. The same goes with his singing. He had a fine voice for a "non singer" that really suited a number of the easy listening/pop/light country songs on the first half of the album, such as "In My Place" which is a comical tune that effectively says "mind your own business". He does a great job on the pop hit "Sunny"...and offers an energetic rendition (two arrangements actually) of "Thunder Road", the song he co-wrote for one of his movies. All of these and others here are enjoyable. I must admit I'm not much of a Calypso fan...and the last half of this compilation is totally that, containing all of the songs recorded for his only other album in this genre. But even so, this album is worth every penny. This guy should have recorded a few more songs in between all of those great movies. Fans are fortunate this CD is still available. Buy it!

A side of Robert Mitchum you've seldom seen. My mother-in-law rocks the house with this. A must listen for all fans.

I'm a big fan of Robert Mitchum's movies, but was a bit skeptical upon learning he'd cut albums...especially calypso! But I was curious and ordered this cd. It's great! Mitchum had a pretty good singing voice, not trained, just natural. The more I listen to the songs the more I like them. Some are especially good, like both versions of Thunder Road, You Deserve Each Other and From a Logical Point of View. I shared it with some friends and they liked it too, amazed that it was Mitchum singing. Especially on the calypso tunes you can't really recognize his voice unless you know he's the one singing. Don't order this and expect perfection, but if you are a fan of Mitchum's, and want to expand your "Mitchum experience" beyond movies, give it a try.

1.0 out of 5 stars GIVE ME A BREAK !, November 3, 2006
This review is from: That Man (Audio CD)
Robert Mitchum was a good actor, but,as this album so abundantly proves,he was not a good singer...Now,don't get me wrong here,if some fan of a good actor wants other memorabilia by him/her that is thier right, but being of fan(even a really loyal fan)still does not mean that the actor or actress in question can pass muster as a vocalist...It really doesn't take too much effort to "sing"the sort of calypso tunes that take up a lot of the space on this disc...Mitchum can get by,but then so can I,probably so can you as well...But,honestly,neither one of us is the next Harry Belafonte, and, during his lifetime, neither was mitchum...Therefore,like most other celebrity "golden throat"vanity releases,Mitchum's two albums exist not because Bob Mitchum was such a great vocalist but, instead, because Bob Mitchum was a popular actor, wanted to sing, and his star status permitted him to record..many really talented vocalists should be so fortunate...
