Grade 2-3?Amy, a 7-year-old Brownie, has a 13-year-old Cadette Girl Scout baby-sitter, Hallie, who wears only black-and-white clothes with loads of colorful jewelry, and her young charge wants to be just like her. After the Brownies tour a local museum with Hallie's troop as guides, Amy is treated as an equal by her sitter and her crowd. She copies the older girl's hair and dress style and ignores her own friends. When she overhears the older girls talking about her, she realizes the importance of her relationships with her own friends and with Hallie. My daughter and I are enjoying the books of this series, as she has signed up for Brownie Girl Scouts for the fall. This book is about the longings and pitfalls of trying to act grown up -- a little too grown up for your age. As with the other "Here Come the Brownies" series books, it holds a gentle lesson or two about being friendly and helpful while being true to yourself. A good set of alternative role models in this world of sassy and sour-mouthed TV and cartoon characters.
