5.0 out of 5 stars deserves all success, May 17, 2000

In the late 1970's, Paul Cebar was a Wednesday-night Open Mic regular at the Blue River Cafe in Milwaukee. Summer, winter, rain or steam, Paul patiently climbed onto that stage night after night, year after year, and perfected his act. Not only did his singing & guitar playing mature and ripen, but his ability to absorb music from Louis Jordan to -- well, I can't put a top limit on Paul's dedication to listening and metabolising everything he hears, and searching out what he hasn't heard before.

In his case, practice has made perfect. He has transcended his teachers and the joy of making music is evident in his recordings.

He is unique in every way, a walking, breathing, and very kind man who knows more about the history of soul and rock than most of us will ever know. But the real deal is, PAUL CEBAR ROCKS! Check him out in person! Meanwhile, this was one of his first albums (perhaps the very first), when Robyn Pluer was still in the band. Every song is a kick.

Check out Paul's later CD's, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD with a lot of groove and soul., July 30, 1999

Paul Cebar & The Milwaukeeans offer some of the most "feel good" and at the same time, intelligent, music out today. As this CD will demonstrate, their music is a combination of funk, rock and soul that will knock your socks off and keep you boppin' all night long. Although all of their CDs are fantastic, especially this earlier one, they must be experienced LIVE to be truly appreciated -- then you won't be able to get enough of them!

I have worn out 2 cd players listening to this cd. This captures the late 80s musical scene, at the top of which was Paul Cebar. Musical syncretist and crypto-columnist, he and his band are like no other. Kind of a Dr. John of the North.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique, upbeat, eclectic, excellent, April 19, 2000

This review is from: That Unhinged Thing (Audio CD)
Hard to categorize, Paul Cebar and the Milwaukeans are afantastic blend of rock, blues, latin beat, zydeco and soul that mightbe described as world beat. Excellent, outstanding album. Their later cds are similarly outstanding. If you ever have a chance to see this band live, do not miss it unless you would suffer health consequences from excessive toe-tapping. It's too bad this group doesn't have a more palatable name for the music industry or they would enjoy national success.

5.0 out of 5 stars In a category all its own, July 30, 1999

Paul Cebar is a unique singer/songwriter who plays music that you just HAVE to move to. I love everything I've heard from him. His band is terrific with a wide variety of instruments from saxophones to bongos. His tunes range from Cajun to Jazz, Motown to Rock 'n Roll to Salsa. Maybe the category he fits into is "Great Music"!

5.0 out of 5 stars Upbeat..makes me want to put on my finest clothes and dance, August 7, 1998

This is my first exposure to Cebar & Milwaukeans. This CD offers eclectic, upbeat, variety-style dancing and listening music. It's good to listen to because the artistry is great but it's also good behind a party. I have to keep from listening to it too much.
