5.0 out of 5 stars Shake It Up Baby!, July 12, 2005

This review is from: That'll Flat Git It, Vol. 1: Rockabilly from the Vaults of RCA Records (Audio CD)
The first cd of this fabulous rockabilly series That'll Flat Git It.
The cd starts with wild Joe Clay's Sixteen Chicks, who recorded only ten songs of which two are featured here (the other one is Rudy Grayzell's Duck Tail), David Houston became famous in the sixties with Billy Sherrill's Almost Persuaded is here featured with two tracks Sugar Sweet and One And Only. Janis Martin aka Female Elvis was the only real rockabilly chick beside Laura Lee Perkins and Wanda Jackson. Here you can hear her own composition Drugstore Rock 'n' Roll and Barefoot Baby. Dick Glasser is more famour as a composer, but he is good as a singer too. Catty Town is a nice number. Don't Bug Me Baby was a huge hit for Cliff Richard in the fifties, but Milton Allen's version is wilder and better. New Shoes of Lee Denson is an obvious ripoff of Blue Suede Shoes. Jimmy Dell's I've Got A Dollar is another wild and raw rockabilly.
A must for rockabilly fans!

5.0 out of 5 stars Only the best rockabilly music, April 13, 2003
This review is from: That'll Flat Git It, Vol. 1: Rockabilly from the Vaults of RCA Records (Audio CD)
"That'll Flat, Git It" is one of the best compilations of the 1950's rockabilly. Each volume (19 in total) contains nearly 30 songs, mostly rockabilly classics and unknown great artists.
In spite the tracks were remastered, you can hear some noise, especially in the end of the tracks. This is because many songs were taken from original vinyl singles.
The first volume was originally released on Bear Family in 1993, and featured Joe Clay, Ric Cartey, Joey Castle and even Pee Wee King. Other artists are more or less unknown.
A good start for anyone who wants to know more about 1950's pure rockabilly.

That'll Flat Get It, Vol. 1 (Bear Family Records): Only Bear Family had the guts to put out a great series like this. Volume 1 is a great collection. Here you will find a bunch of artists that you've probably never heard of before, and after hearing this CD you're gonna wonder why they've have been hidden from you! Highly Recommended.
