That's Amore made me feel like I was in Italy, I have never been there before, that's what so great about books you can go everywhere in the world, Anne Marie has always dreamed of visiting Italy. Her ex~ husband is getting remarried, she decides to meet her high school crush, in Italy his name is Giovanni, she cannot wait to see him, but what she does not know is that he is not the same person she remembers in high school. She had met this tour guide Marco he is not really a tour guide he has been tracking Giovanni down, Giovanni, is in a lot of trouble. The only way to find him, Marco has to lie to Anne Marie and tell her he is a tour guide, along the way her and Marco go on adventure on tracking Giovanni. Anne Marie was hoping to find love and passion with Giovanni, but what she didn't realize is that love has found her and very enjoyable read.

Happy Reading

4.0 out of 5 stars Captivating travelogue and romance, June 19, 2006
By
This review is from: That's Amore (Mass Market Paperback)
Anne Marie decides that the only way a jilted wife can survive the impending nuptials of a philandering husband is to get away. At the urging of her pal Evie, she flies to Italy to meet the exchange student she had a crush on 23 years earlier, hoping for a little lovin' Italian style.

Armed with a box of expensive chocolates for Evie's cousin and a yearbook for Giovanni, she is being followed by Marco Moretti, who also has an interest in Giovanni, who is into more than a few shady things. Marco is an undercover agent for the Italian FBI. As Anne Marie makes one tourist mistake after another, Marco, in the role of tour guide is there to help her out, as he waits for her to handoff the priceless jewel they suspect she has in her possession to Giovanni.

When she is forced to don the sexy wardrobe of Marco's sister (who is currently in a nunnery thanks to Giovanni), Marco's interest is piqued, and despite his reservations about her guilt or innocence, they get involved. But what about the priceless diamond - could Anne Marie really just be an unlucky tourist? And why is her ex-husband suddenly insistent in getting in touch with her?

Author Grace has written an captivating and quirky Valentine to a romantic country - it is a travelogue with the added bonus of a cute romance for two very jaded and hesitant lovers. It will have you ready to catch a plane to Italy.

3.0 out of 5 stars The descriptions of Italy is more captivating than the story itself, September 2, 2005
This review is from: That's Amore (Mass Market Paperback)
Unable to stomach the thought of attending her ex-husband's wedding to a woman a little more than half his age, Anne Marie Jackson gives in to her friend Evie's suggestion to go on vacation in Italy. Back in high school, the object of Anne Marie's youthful fantasies had been an Italian exchange student, Giovanni. Over twenty years later, Anne Marie arrives in Sorrento, Italy to meet a grown-up Giovanni and have a grand adventure. However, the tall, dark stranger waiting for her isn't her long-lost love.

Government agent Marco Moretti has professional and private reasons for wanting to nab the elusive Giovanni. For most of their lives, Giovanni and Marco have been rivals; now they are on opposite sides of the law. Giovanni is part of an international diamond smuggling ring, and Marco's sources have named the American woman as the latest courier. Pretending to be a tour guide who can't take the word "no," Marco sticks to Anne Marie as she rambles through the Italian countryside.

The true star of THAT'S AMORE is the setting. The small towns of Italy come to life in Carol Grace's descriptions -- from the taste of a tomato freshly plucked from a vine to an evening of opera in a town square. The characters, however, are another story. While I applaud that this book features a slightly older hero and heroine than the norm, Anne Marie comes across with more naiveté than the average 20 year old. Between her penchant for crying at the drop of a hat and Marco's constant musings about the direction in which his life is heading, this reviewer found it hard to believe that the hero is forty and the heroine, forty-one. Ironically enough, it is the mysterious Giovanni who is the most intriguing character of all.

Regardless of its flaws, Carol Grace's THAT'S AMORE is still interesting enough to warrant a look, especially for those who love all things Italian. Perhaps if a reader were planning a trip to Southern Italy, they might even take it along as a guide book/holiday read.

In this case you can judge a book by its cover ... THAT'S AMORE looks like a great beach read with lots of adventure and romance, and that's exactly what it is. Perfect to take on vacation, or to read at home in an easy chair when you want to unwind. More from this author, please!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book........, August 6, 2003
This review is from: That's Amore (Mass Market Paperback)
This was one of those books you just don't want to put down. An excellent summer read, I just hope the author branches off and writes a book with the sister Isabella as the main character. The Italian family was a hoot....they would make a great sequel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Italian style romance!!, July 2, 2003

This review is from: That's Amore (Mass Market Paperback)
After twenty plus years of marriage, Anne Marie Jackson's husband leaves her for a younger woman, then her friend persuades her to take the vacation of a life time. In Italy, Anne Marie plans to meet up with Giovanni, the Italian guy she had meet in high school when he had been a foreign student in America. She had had a crush on him then and now that she is free from a ho hum marriage, she wonders if she and Giovanni will become more than friends. However, he is proving to be very elusive, and instead her attention is claimed by a sexy stranger she sees casually lounging outside her hotel when she arrives.

Marco Moretti is definitely more than he seems, and Anne Marie notices he is eager to meet up with Giovanni as much as she is, but wonders why. Marco offers himself as her personal tour guide and Anne Marie finds him very hard to resist. When events happen to make her cautious of him, she tries to distance herself but he is always there...when she needs him and when she does not. Anne Marie can not resist Marco, and finds herself falling hard for this gorgeous, mysterious Italian man.

There is only one thing I like better than a Cajun hero and that is an Italian one!! "That's Amore" is like a Harlequin Presents (a series line I enjoy very much!) but much, much better, as it is a longer length story. The heroine had always longed to visit Italy and she truly has the trip of a lifetime, the highlight being the sexy hero. He is such a modern guy, from his ever present cell phone to a loving grandmother that wants him to marry and have bambinos. Visiting Italy myself has always been a dream of mine and I lived it vicariously through this heroine. *g* Carol Grace blended this story with so much authentic Italian allure and flavor that I was totally absorbed. "That's Amore" is a wonderful romance, Italian-style!

5.0 out of 5 stars Reminds me of "French Kiss", August 20, 2003
By
This review is from: That's Amore (Mass Market Paperback)
This was a fun book to read. I won't give a synopsis, I will just say that this book reminded me a lot of the movie "French Kiss" with just a smiggen of "Romancing the Stone." In this one, though, the hero is the cop and it takes place in Italy. The main characters are both middle aged, but that doesn't slow them down at all. There's a bit of a mystery thrown in. Take an armchair trip and give this one a try.

I didn't start out liking this book, but found after a bit I couldn't put it down. It was predictable, and JUST like French Kiss, but regardless I couldn't put it down. I stayed up one night to finish it. I would recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yellow walls, blue tiles, and Amore, July 5, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: That's Amore (Mass Market Paperback)
Anne Marie, the heroine of "That's Amore," is among my favorite heroines, right up there with Gracie Snow of "Heaven, Texas," and Joan Wilder of "Romancing the Stone." She leaves the old Anne Marie, faithful but discarded wife, librarian and mom, behind in California, and lets herself be open to all life's new possibilities for her. In Italy on her own, she goes gamely forward, turning travel calamities into opportunities and adventure, finding out who she can be and taking the wheel of her own life. Her delight in all things Italian allows her jaded hero to rediscover joy in his own life and to realize that he needs to let the thief he's pursuing get away but not the woman. ---a reader, northern California
