Book Description

July 1, 2008
Ralphie Chickalini is on the verge of living happily ever after with the perfect woman. His fiance Francesca Maria Buccigrossi of Astoria Boulevard is a curvaceous, fun-loving brunette. His late father, whose recent death the family is still mourning, adored Francesca's homemade pesto sauce and declared her a "keeper," his brothers think she's a hoot, his sisters adore her, and his nephews and niece already call her "aunt." But as the wedding date approaches, Ralphie begins to question his love.

When Ralphie bumps into two psychic sisters at a New Year's Eve party, his life will be thrown in an unexpected direction. Daria and Tammy might not look alike, but they do have more than just a maternal bloodline in common. They both have a psychic gift. Tammy or "Madame Tamare" is a storefront psychic who predicted the marriage between Ralphie's brother Dominic's marriage and an unlikely bride. Now, Daria is channeling a spirit with a message for Ralphie: his father has returned to guide him to true love. But Daria has her own life to live, and she plans to move back to Arizona, messages from another world aside. Despite contrary inclinations, Daria and Ralphie will soon realize that their paths are destined to collide.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Psychic wanderer Daria Marshall tries to ignore the dead people who follow her around everywhere—and she refuses to settle down anywhere for very long. When she visits her sister in New York City, she ends up in Astoria, where she encounters Ralph Chickalini, a lifelong Astorian and member of a large Italian family. Chickalini is mourning the loss of his father, but not the end of his recent ill-advised engagement. Their immediate attraction is tempered by his sadness and her fear of settling down, yet Daria yearns for family and stability and Ralph needs to strike out and become independent of his support system. The presence of the father's ghost adds a nice touch to the story without being too schmaltzy. The characters are fairly well drawn, and Markham (Bride Needs Groom) captures the smalltown/big city contrast of the Queens neighborhood perfectly, with local touches that really make the atmosphere come alive. From Booklist

Vagabond interior-designer Daria has the uncanny ability to see dead people. This unwelcome gift has brought her nothing but trouble, so she ignores the soulful old man who follows her in New York. On New Year’s Eve, Daria goes to a party and meets Ralph Chickalini, who may be the one, except for his fiancée and aura of sadness over the recent death of his father. He has a large extended family, deep roots in the neighborhood, and an aversion to change, while Daria lives for change. Can two such different people sustain a relationship? Markham revisits the beloved Chickalini family and brings her special touch of the supernatural to an enjoyable romance. --Patty Engelmann

4.0 out of 5 stars Chickalini strikes again., July 1, 2008
A Kid's Review
This review is from: That's Amore (Mass Market Paperback)
As always, Wendy Markham created another cute romance story with more of the Chickalini characters. It's been a while since I've read another Chickalini romance, so I dont remember the characters all too well. Markham did a good job of refreshing my memory with some things that happened previously. I cant wait to read more from this author!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love her books...BUT..., August 19, 2008
This review is from: That's Amore (Mass Market Paperback)
I love her books, but this writing in the present tense MAKES ME CRAZY! The entire time I'm reading the book I am translating it into the past tense, as in "They seem so comfortable together, she notes" instantly becomes in my head "They seemed so comfortable together, she noted." Picky? Maybe, but with her extreme writing talent, I just wish she would write NORMALLY, LOL... Aside from that (which seems to be a biggie for me) I really enjoy her books, whether they are written under her own name or a pseudonym. I'll continue buying them and just hope she eventually switches over to writing them to my specifications, hahaha...

5.0 out of 5 stars Contemporary Romance with Psychic Flair, March 30, 2009

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: That's Amore (Mass Market Paperback)
Daria's ability to "see" is quite entertaining, especially when it's Ralphie's father. How could Daria not fall in love with Ralphie after his father's influence on her from the beyond? Not only that, but the warmth of the Chickalini family surely would want to make anyone belong to a loving family like that! Great romantic read.
