It seems like in today's movies and TV vampires and werewolves are seen more as nice guys who don't hurt people. Where vampires sparkle and werewolves are your best friends. But there was a time when these creatures were scene as horrifying and not nice. This book talks about all thing creepy and even as an adult I found it full of a lot of great facts about monsters. I even learned about a few that I have never heard of before.

This book is recommended for children ages 8-12 and is 176 pages. It has a lot of really cool pictures of monsters in it as well and I would recommend it for any young reader who is into things like goosebumps, etc.

This book was way too creepy for me but this is just the kind of book that kids love....scary, spine-tingling and over-the-top spooky. You are navigated through this book by two co-hosts. One is Special Agent Jeepers of the CIA (Creepy Intelligence Agency) who warns you not to read this book before bedtime in case nightmares occur. He is definitely a voice of reason for the reader. The other host is Ethel the E.T., who is an extraterrestrial and lives on a planet that is bright, shiny, safe and .....boring. It has two suns, six moons and 79.3 hours of round-the-clock daylight. She's a believer in earth's folklore and the supernatural stories that are told here. The author has included a special "happy place" page where the sensitive readers can go to fend off those creepy thoughts and ideas that may slink in and overtake their mind, body and very soul.

The book is packed full of stories regarding werewolves, vampires, and all things that are scary and go bump in the night. It is not for the faint-hearted. Throughout the book are arranged colourful, fabulous photos that visually bring the text to life....no you wouldn't want that to happen....off to the "happy page for you. If you love trivia and historical information then this book is for you. The perfect Halloween read!

My kids loveeeddd this book. I think it is completely appropriate for the ages listed, as long as your kids are into creepy and spooky. Most of the scary stuff is written from a historical perspective, which gives it a safe distance for kids and is fascinating to their parents as well. I remember reading "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" as a child, that book is much scarier and is listed as the exact same age group. Anyway, you can judge from the cover what the content is like, so parents should use their own discretion as they know their kids best. It was a hit in my household with both my son and daughter.

My second grader has taken a real fancy to this book, hoarding it into bed to read nightly. I think she's read it from cover to cover at least five times in the two weeks we've had it. It feeds her mind and imagination, and inspired her to look into reading more into cryptozoology.
