Six, count 'em, six CDs packaged in a handsome box with a beautifully illustrated guide to the MGM musical. Listen to more than 100 numbers from dozens of films going all the way back to the 1929 Broadway Melody and culminating with Vincente Minnelli's masterpiece, 1958's Gigi. In between there's Judy Garland singing music from her films and numbers deleted from release prints. Lena Horne, June Allyson, Tony Martin, Howard Keel, Jane Powell, Kathryn Grayson, Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra, Esther Williams, Mickey Rooney, Jimmy Durante, Red Skelton and more. Rhino and Turner Classic Films have painstakingly restored most cuts to top form, even remixed classics for true stereo. There's no other set like this and there never will be.

First I need to correct one of the comments made by another reviewer about skimping on the Astaire-Rogers musicals. The reason is simple. This is a collection of songs from MGM films, and the A-R films were done at RKO. They did star together in one MGM film 10 years after their last RKO film together and this one, THE BARKLEYS OF BROADWAY, is indeed represented.This set takes many of the songs which were represented by shortened versions in the three THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT films and gives us the full soundtrack versions and then some. Disc number six features numbers that were considered for the anthology films, but dropped due to time constraints and other issues. In all this is a fabulous collection of music from the best studio of it's era. All of the great MGM stars are on these discs, and the enclosed book gives you a detailed account of each film represented. I especially enjoy the reproductions of the original poster art which was used to advertise the films. In regards to the music, the stars, the poster art......we truly will never see the likes of this again.

I'm driving my parents nuts blasting this CD set and belting out the songs. This is for anyone who likes showtunes, musicals, classic/old movies, or anything of the sort. Great, soooooo great.

This anthology is worth every penny! For those who already own several MGM soundtracks the collection is still worth buying for the songs that don't appear anywhere else. Your best bet is to find this collection somewhere at an auction site or at a used CD store because it's currently out of print. Cross your fingers and hope you can get your hands on a copy.

OK, it's alot of money to lay out for one CD set, but don't forget there are six CD's in this package and a wonderful 96 page booklet with photos, full information on the movies and the songs in them, reproductions of the posters advertising the movies and some off-screen photos, too.

If you are a movie musical fan, you MUST buy this collection. ALL of the classic performances from the 3 "That's Entertainment" films are here from the famous ("The Trolley Song," sung by Judy Garland, and 4 other numbers from "Meet Me In St. Louis") to the relatively obscure ("If You Can Dream" sung by Lena Horne from "Meet Me In Las Vegas").

Besides all of the M.G.M. classic stars like Garland, Rooney, Sinatra, Esther Williams, Ann Miller, Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, and Kathryn Grayson, you'll also hear Dinah Shore, Tony Martin, Julie Wilson, Rosemary Clooney, Ethel Waters, Nanette Fabray, and so many more. You'll hear out-takes that never made it to the screen and you'll hear songs that you've heard all your life.

The sound is much better than you'd dream it would be. Even though my review sounds like a cheezy television commercial, do yourself a big favor and buy this once-in-a-lifetime set. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Now, folks, there was never box set like That's Entertainment. And will never be! Rhino has deleted this wonderful set. So, if are a serious MGM musical buff, it's you last chance to get this treasure. Order now, as the folks on Amazon still have it on stock. But very soon... Well, with luck, you can try to get it on the Ebay, for the triple of the price! Don't waste you time and have Astaire, Kelly, Garland, Horne, Sinatra, Rooney, Keel and others legends inside a box!

I have just purchased "That's Entertainment: The Ultimate Anthology of MGM Musicals" box set. The music is fantastic, this really is a collectors item. The music contained in this 6CD set is nothing short of remarkable. Listening to rare outtakes of Judy Garland in the lead role of Annie Get Your Gun is only one of numerous highlights in this set. It includes a 96 page booklet and all the music has been digitally remastered from the premium sound sources available. I contacted Rhino records to find out if this box set was still available, they said that it is no longer in print. If you want to buy it, do it now before it is nolonger available to purchase. If you want "ENTERTAINMENT", you know what to do.

Regretfully I can only rate this with five stars. The music sends any true fan of the Hollywood musical into orbit.A treasure forever.

aaaaaahhhhh!!! this is the best set of music ever! you should *really* get it!! it has most of the songs from all the TE movies... and even has the taps for ann miller's and eleanor powell's movies!! yay! and besides, it's got great pics in the book and a great case for it :-)

Anyone who loves musicals will love this set. I recommend it highly. You wont be disappointed.
