A successfully devious plan requires patience, the trap sprung only when all the pieces fall into place, like knowing when the stew has been cooking just long enough. Cynn Chadwick is a good cook. Her novella, "That's Karma, Baby..." begins with the plot-pot in full boil, the aroma of suspense already in the air. I chuckled through the circumstances, gasped at the truth telling, and hoped along with the characters for vengeance. Chadwick casts a net of deceit so thinly veiled it is barely perceptible, until it leaves the whisper of truth in your ear and the kiss of karma on your cheek.

That's Karma, Baby...

Don't be fooled by the appearance of this work as a novella. This story is a full strength suspense from which the author distilled the very essence and allowed the process to foment, leaving a carefully layered, taut narrative. The characters are deftly drawn and enticing enough to accelerate the pace of the story.

I couldn't put it down and when I finished, smiled with the same satisfaction provided by a rich complex eighteen-year-old single malt. This is a terrific story with the perfect fist-pumping denouement.

Never push anyone too far as it is going to come back to haunt you. This is a book about what can happen to you if you do the wrong thing to others and what can happen when Karma takes control. A lesson we all should learn before we get the kick we weren't expecting.
