One cold November day in 2010, Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr. of Logan, W. Va. and his wife Jennifer stood for hours outside of the Jacob Javits Convention Center in Manhattan. Editorial Reviews

That's Life is the debut album from this year's "America s Got Talent" winner, Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr. For his album, Landau collaborated with legendary jazz, soul and pop producer Steve Tyrell on a songbook of Sinatra's hits from the 60s, '70s and '80s.

Landau's emotional AGT triumph on Sept. 14, 2011, was seen by more than 14 million viewers. And his thrilling renditions of Frank Sinatra classics like "My Way," "Fly Me To The Moon" and "Under My Skin" won him a legion of supporters who were wowed by his poise under pressure and his unassuming charm.

When Landau first auditioned on NBC's "America s Got Talent" in June, 2011, he said simply, "I am here to show America I can sing." And when he did sing, he gave the audience in New York's Radio City Music Hall a moment of astonishment. Landau's version of "Under My Skin" brought the audience and even the judging panel -- to their feet.

That's Life features classic tracks such as "My Way," "Ain't That A Kick In The Head," "I've Got The World On A String," "Fly Me To The Moon," and "Baby It s Cold Outside."

The album is produced by Steve Tyrell. During his storied 40-year music career, Tyrell has scored movies (That Thing You Do, Father of the Bride), produced albums for dozens of top singers (Diana Ross, Ray Charles, Smokey Robinson, Linda Ronstadt, Mary J Blige, Chris Botti, Bonnie Raitt, Bette Midler and Stevie Wonder among them) and recorded his own albums.

5.0 out of 5 stars Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr. Sings Frank Sinatra November 21, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Last Friday (11/18) while watching a segment of "The View," I was introduced to "America's Got Talent (AGT)" winner Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr. This young lad from Logan, W. VA was named AGT's sixth season winner on September 14, 2011. When Landau began singing "That's Life" I thought I was listening to a person performing a lip-sync of this famous and favorite Frank Sinatra standard. However, this was definitely not the case! What I was seeing and hearing was the real-thing! I was witnessing a young, extremely talented artist possessing a Frank Sinatra-sounding voice with all the vocal-trimmings thrown-in at the right time and measures. This includes Sinatra-style orchestral-directing gestures to ensure that he gets the correct "Sinatra-musical forte" at the right measures in the song! By now, you may have guessed that I'm a major fan of Frank Sinatra's music. After listening to Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr.'s performance yesterday on the "View," I am now also a life-time fan of Landau E. Murphy, Jr. too.

I have previewed all eleven (11) tracks of Murphy's debut CD, "That's Life," via Amazon.com. Every track of this CD containing famous Frank Sinatra standards is outstanding including Tracks 4 & 7 (Something Stupid and Baby It's Cold Outside) where he is accompanied by vocalist Judith Hill. Last Friday, I pre-ordered a dozen copies of this wonderful Sinatra-style CD. I intend to give a copy of Murphy's new CD to several of my jazz-loving friends and family members. If you're a fan of Frank Sinatra's music, you're going to love Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr's debut CD "That's Life." He sounds a lot like Frank Sinatra but he's actually performing Sinatra's music his way! (NOTE: The last track on the CD is titled "My Way.") I wish Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr. continued success as he performs and records the lovely music of Frank Sinatra.

5.0 out of 5 stars So clean, so fresh, so new! November 21, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Ever since Landau first appeared on AGT, I've been anxiously awaiting his first album. Got my first copies today!! Yes, I certainly ordered more than just one! And, I'm so glad I did. At least now while I'm waiting for his second album, I'll be able to enjoy the first. If I wear one out, I've got plenty more to keep on listening.

First of all, I was never a Frank Sinatra fan. And I don't enjoy jazz. But, Landau brings this genre to new heights. His rendition is refreshing. His singing is so clean. And, he's making me wonder why I had never been a Frank Sinatra fan before. But, as far as I'm concerned, Landau takes Ole Blue Eyes' songs to a higher level of quality.

I highly recommend this album to anyone - even those who are not fans of jazz.

5.0 out of 5 stars Landau makes these songs sound new. November 22, 2011
Format:Audio CD
I love Landau Eugene Murphy Jr's voice. These songs are not new, but his vocal talent makes them sound original. "That's Life" is a perfect title song. This song motivates me not to give up on anything. His voice raises my spirit on the track "Fly Me To The Moon". Landau duets with a singer named Judith Hill on the song "Something Stupid". This song has a breezy romantic quality. This tune makes me believe that love at first sight is possible. He also duets with Judith on "Baby It's Cold Outside". This song makes me feel good. It sounds very smooth. "Ain't That A Kick In The Head" features a superb horn section. This song is arranged perfectly. "My Way" is a song that celebrates a person's individuality and reflections on life. "I Get A Kick Out Of You" is a song about how the simple things about someone can make another person happy. "Night And Day" is a song about yearning to be with a lover. I am a bigger fan of these classic tunes because of the vocal talent of Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. The running time on the disc is 32 minutes, but I could never get tired of listening to these songs. I could play them over and over.
