5.0 out of 5 stars Like Warm Brandy, October 10, 2004
This review is from: That's Me in the Bar (Audio CD)
I was turned on to this CD (and the singer) many years ago, when this CD first came out, and it's one of those CD's that start to finish is wonderful. It stayed with me for years, and I've always passed along the CD title to friends and told them to find it and keep it. It's warm, soulful, and full of discovery and fun. It made me smile, ponder and to this day brings back memories of where I was when I heard it. Definetly one of the CD's that will forever be a keeper and a favorite.

4.0 out of 5 stars good stuff, May 10, 2003

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: That's Me in the Bar (Audio CD)
This album is different from his first, self-titled, album, which was more traditional sounding piano blues. He still has his raspy voice and piano based songs, but this album has a bit of a more "modern sound", with elements of jazz, country, and rockabilly in the songs.
Because it's so different from the first album, it took a while for it to grow on me, but it eventually did. There are plenty of good songs with catchy melodies and reasonably interesting lyrics about hanging around in bars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Favorite Early AJ, August 17, 2009
This review is from: That's Me in the Bar (Audio CD)
I am a big fan of AJs early raspy-voiced, piano-based blues. Of his first three albums, this one is my favorite. It is timeless. It is a classic. It is one of those albums you can listen to all the way through and leaves you wanting more. If you are a fan of piano blues, this is a must-have for your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of a Kind, September 15, 2007
This review is from: That's Me in the Bar (Audio CD)
From Robert Johnson to B.B. King; The Eagles to Skynnard; Steely Dan to Vollenweider, Clapton to Hendrix; I like excellent music from almost all genres.

A.J Croce really is one of a kind. Versatile doesn't begin to describe his talent. Poingnant, whimsical, funny and sad all in the same album. Croce paints vivid pictures with his poetic lyrics; perfectly matching the music to the tone of his story lines. It just doesn't get much better than this.

I'm collecting the rest of his albums....NOW!
