5.0 out of 5 stars Well done!
That's Not My Puppy: Its Coat Is Too Hairy is short and sweet on length, but wonderfully entertaining with textures. This is a great, sturdy board book that very little readers will enjoy multiple times.

And, when you've explored all you want about the dogs, you can always discuss that cute little mouse who seems to appear on every single page...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good textures. Too short.
This is great as far as touchy feely books go. There are a variety of textures for baby to explore. But it is very short with a total of five page of text. And the text itself is fine but not very rich.

Cute, educational, and very, very entertaining. This is a must for your toddler's library.

it's a short story - only 5 pages, which was dissapointing at first. but the different textures fascinate my 14 mo old daughter. she loves to go through it constantly.

5.0 out of 5 stars My son can't get enough of these., September 18, 2005
This review is from: That's Not My Puppy: Its Coat Is Too Hairy (Usborne Touchy Feely) (Hardcover)
We started with that's not my Puppy and now have 5 of these books. They are my 1 year old's favorite books by far. Sturdy enough for me to leave a couple of them in the crib (they don't distintigrate if he puts them in his mouth like some board books), and engaging enough for him to sit still for a full read. He looks through them alone and with us over and over. He has loved them since about 6-7 months old.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fuzzy, Fluffy, Squashy Fun, September 12, 2005
This review is from: That's Not My Puppy: Its Coat Is Too Hairy (Usborne Touchy Feely) (Hardcover)
Our twin babies are enjoying these "That's Not My..." books. These are more engaging than some of the other touchy-feely books we've got. Some books put materials in the pages for the babies to touch, just for the sake of having them there - and the words don't seem to "match up" with the thing we're feeling, or they are so stretched for material that it barely makes sense what we're feeling. Many of the "touchy-feely" books simply lack story content. That's not true of these Usborne touchy-feelies. The text is simple and makes sense to toddlers, and gives them a wider vocabulary of adjectives -- especially "tactile" words, like "fuzzy," "fluffy," "shiny," "hairy," and even (in "That's Not My Teddy"), "squashy!"

For bigger babies (my babies are just one year old), it's neat to notice a cute little mouse who shows up on every page. That's one thing I love about Usborne baby books - even when the babies are tired of looking at the main story, there's always the cute little mouse to notice and talk about!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great "touch and feel" book!, April 22, 2000
This review is from: That's Not My Puppy: Its Coat Is Too Hairy (Usborne Touchy Feely) (Hardcover)
We all know that babies are fascinated by how things feel, they love to touch new and interesting fabrics, so this book is great! Each page has a different puppy on it, with a different texture for his ears, his nose, etc. My daughter loves this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Touchy Feely's Number One with Our Little Guy, August 25, 2002

This review is from: That's Not My Puppy: Its Coat Is Too Hairy (Usborne Touchy Feely) (Hardcover)
All the Touchy-Feely Books have wonderful textures (soft, rough, shiny and more) that draw babies and toddlers into the story. They take delight in touching the textures, looking at the vibrant pictures and listening to your voice as you read the story.

These books are of exceptional quality - take it from the parents of young Malcolm. Malcolm chews on these board books, sucks on them and even turns his own pages. His books look like new! These are durable board books with thick and resilient pages.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Touching Book, July 6, 2008
This review is from: That's Not My Puppy: Its Coat Is Too Hairy (Usborne Touchy Feely) (Hardcover)
This is another winner in this board book series, written by the "touchy-feely" team of Watt, Fiona, and Usborne. It's essentially a monologue by an unseen narrator (perhaps a young toddler like the book's audience),who notes why various breeds of dogs are NOT his or her own.

The illustarions are bright primary colors, against similar but contrasting backgrounds. Embedded within the triple-thick board book pages is some texture-rich material described in the book. These attributes enable the narrator to label and categorize the various dogs, and to deduce that the pictured dog is NOT "my puppy."

Ultimately, after you and your young charge touch the materials, enjoy the bright volotd and varying breeds, and delight in the repetitive; "that's not my puppy," refrain, the tenacious reader/listener will celebrate the ultimate discovery of the beloved dog. A nice little vocabulary buikder and an all-around suinpke but fun boatd book that imaginative adults can enahnce with a nicely dramatic reading.

My son Thomas (now 21 months) took to this book at 12 months and it is still is favorite. Very durable. He used to pet, and now he loves to show me the mouse on each page. I'm buying other Usborne books for an upcoming plane ride! He also has one in Spanish that he likes as much.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great touch book, December 8, 2008
This review is from: That's Not My Puppy: Its Coat Is Too Hairy (Usborne Touchy Feely) (Hardcover)
My son loves most of this book. He really likes the "hairy", the "fluffy", the "shaggy" and the "squashy". However, when we get to "bumpy" and "shiny", he flips the pages. He's only 9 months so maybe he doesn't get the subtlety of the feel of those two but he definitely knows he doesn't like them. This book would be a 5 if those two pages weren't included and there were two other textures that were more obvious to little hands. He chooses this book over others but when there are 6 things to touch and he doesn't like two of them, it's only a 4.
