Have you ever had a friend that you were close to but felt that you were superior? Have there been instances when you felt that you had to be in charge because your ideas were the best ones? Raven Baxter encounters this problem in DUELING DIVAS, number eight of Disney's ongoing book series based on the TV show, That's So Raven.

In part one, Raven and Chelsea are auditioning for the school's Festival of the Classical Arts, but can't decide what to do. Although Raven doesn't mean any harm, it's no surprise to anyone that Raven always makes the decisions, leaving Chelsea's ideas unnoticed. For once, Raven decides to follow Chelsea's lead even though she doesn't agree with the musical selection. Things come to a head when Chelsea learns Raven hates her idea, and they part ways. Luckily, their friendship prevails, and once again they become the inseparable buddies they have been since first grade.

Part two highlights the ongoing rivalry between Raven and Nicki, the school's resident snob. When the girls discover they have planned parties on the same day, Nicki vows to make Raven change her party date or suffer the consequences. Although Nicki ends up embarrassing Raven, she ends up finding out what it truly means to do the mature thing. The lesson: be careful who you mess with, the joke may very well end up on you.

This book directly parallels the episodes on television, giving an accurate recap complete with pictures. For all those That's So Raven fans out there, this is a wonderful way to not only revisit the episodes, but gain a deeper understanding of the lessons being taught. This is a valuable addition to any child's bookshelf, and one I highly recommend.
