Best baby book,

This review is from: That's Not My Train (Usborne Touchy-Feely Board Books) (Board book)
This is my son's favorite book. I started reading it to him when he was about 3 months old and he still loves it at 9 months. (When his toddler friends visit, they read right along too.) The simple but bright graphics really hold his attention and he now loves to feel the different textures on each page. This was such a hit that we now own That's Not My...: Train, Tractor, Dinosaur, Puppy and Teddy Bear!

My nine-month old loves this book--he spends a lot of time just flipping through the pages and checking out the different textures. Very simple text is balanced by very sturdy, brightly colored pages. Slightly larger than most board books, too. It's a great deal for the price.

Board book is a terrific book for very young children. My three year old reads it to my nine month old! Graphics and colors are great; use of repeative verse is perfect for the very young, ie. "that's not my train it's ...A must have for a little one's library.

Great interactive book for little ones,
This review is from: That's Not My Train (Usbornetouchy-Feely) (Board book)
My 3 year old son got this board book when he was younger and he pulled it out recently and was still excited about it. Sometimes you look at a simple book like this and you're just amazed at how much your child loves it. I know he's going to be thrilled to read it to the new baby when she arrives.
It starts with the cover and the wheels that are too squishy, and goes through a train with windows that are too shiny, funnel that is too rusty, one that has a side that is too bumpy, one that has a roof that is too rough, and finally, the last two pages that say THAT is my train. The last one is the least distinguishable because the texture is just a simple "glossy", but it doesn't decrease his excitement at getting to "his" train. It's just super cute and has always been a book he loves.

This is a book my 16 month old daughter asks for time and again by saying choo choo...She can now say words like rusty, glossy, and rough from reading this book and touching the textures. A great "learning to talk" aid.

My daughter is eight month old and she loves touching the squashy wheels, the bumpy side of the train and the rough roof. The glossy engine on the last page does nothing for her but overall, it is probably her favourite book of the collection.

I tried to read to my eight month old daughter but she wasn't so interested, until I pulled out this book. We got this book as a hand me down and it withstood the previous baby very well. She loves touching the rusty funnel, the bumpy sides, the rough roof. She also loves to look into the shiny mirror windows and kiss herself. It's her favorite book and she always reach for it when she sees it. We normally read it more than once (It's a short book) and she is learning to turn the pages. She likes it so much, i am buying a few more in this series to test out.

That's My Book!,

This is one of the first Usborne Books I bought for my family, way before I became a consultant for the company. My youngest loved it. The text is rhythmic, the touchy-feely aspect is very attractive to babies and toddlers and there is a mouse on each page for your child to point out. This series is great for vocabulary development, especially those adjectives. For a long while my child would say "that's not my ... " in many situations such as in the parking lot going to our car. "That's not my car, it's too blue." "That's not my car, it's too big." It became a very enjoyable game for us! I call these the "potato chip" books because you can't have just one!

We have been reading this story (and its "Thats not my.." counterparts) to my daughter since she was like 2 months old. She is not 13 months and LOVES them still. The graphics hold her attention and the pages are just the right thickness for her to turn by herself. Shes not a huge fan of the textures, but thats just her haha. I buy these books for all my friends who are having babies. :)

This marvelous book allows children to "feel" their way through a series of trains, searching for "their train." One train has wheels that are "too squashy," another has a funnel that is "too rusty." At the end, children find the train they've been looking for. On each page, part of the illustration is textured, and there is quite a variety among the textures. The pages are thick and easy to turn. The simple lines and bold colors in the illustrations are appealing to little ones. There isn't too much text, and it has nice repetition and rhythm to it.
My 1-year-old son absolutely loves this book. He will sit for 15 minutes at a time, just flipping through the pages and feeling the various textures. I would highly recommend it, as well as Usborne's other "touchy-feely" books. |
