5.0 out of 5 stars Creativity
I titled this "creativity" because that is what this album represents to the utmost. A wide variety of artists from the rock and jazz worlds (Peter Frampton, Joe Jackson, Doctor John, Bobbie McFerrin, Mark Bingam...) got together to produce a wild, weird, and wonderful tribute to Monk. This album is for fans of jazz and jazz fusion who have open minds. You probably...

This CD release if NOT the complete double-LP. A number of tracks were omitted. As such, I urge you to procede with caution, by checking the track list against the LP to determine if any of your favorite tracks were chopped.

5.0 out of 5 stars Creativity, September 9, 2005

This album is for fans of jazz and jazz fusion who have open minds. You probably won't like everything on it. I don't, but I gave it 5 stars because some songs are so great and interesting (Jackson's moody Round Midnight, Bingham's Brilliant Corners, and the swinging versions of Bye-Ya and In Walked Bud are among my favorites.) This album has commercial stars, but it was NOT made to sell and make money. It was made because these folks love music and love Monk. And it shows.

5.0 out of 5 stars Something missing...., August 19, 2007
This review is from: That's the Way I Feel Now (Audio CD)
A true "6 stars" Album (from 1984)! Unfortunately on the CD version 7 tracks seem to be missing - especially a great "shuffle boil" by John Zorn.

Got this in 84' when lp's(double) still ruled and was sparked by all the talent associated with this project.Love Jazz but my soul is in Rock. Todd the Amazing is on this with Gary Windo(alto) doing "Four in One" that will make your head spin. Steve Khan,Frampton,Chris Spedding all give steller performances. If your taste runs to Fusion, blues, pop and love the masters of jazz
with new interpetations give this a spin. You can say hi to John Zorn(get anything this man does!) on this too. Can you dig it--- I thought you could!

3. Reflections
4. Blue Monk
5. Ask Me Now
6. Brilliant Corners
7. Monk's Mood
8. Pannonica
9. Ba-Lue-Bolivar-Ba-Lues-Are
10. Four in One
11. 'Round Midnight
