Shenks's dazzling illustrations explode in confetti-colored streaks and washes, with a variety of close-ups that relay the tiniest of spring's details in an almost abstract way: a braided rug on a blue floor also looks like a seashell-laden coast of an ocean, and the skunk cabbage flowers in a meadow look like a lush, exotic jungle. Not the hardback,

I bought this book as a baby shower gift since we were requested to bring our favorite children's book. Unfortunately the pictures in this book are not nearly as vibrant as those in the hardback. The book is great, it is a shame they did not reproduce the same quality of pictures.
