Very Sweet Children's book,
By
This review is from: That's When I Talk to God (Hardcover)
That's When I Talk to God, by Dan & Ali Morrow is a sweet little book, beautifully illustrated by Cory Godbey.FROM THE BACK COVER: A little girl discovers that she can talk to God anytime, in any place, and about anything. As a little girls says her bedtime prayers, her mother asks a simple question that sparks a powerful discovery; "You know we can pray to God anytime we want to, right?" With that, the little girl suddenly finds things to talk to God about everywhere-in her garden, in a friend's backyard, and on the soccer field-and learns how God talks to her, too. MY THOUGHTS: This is a wonderful book for children, each page has colorful pictures which are certain to be appealing to children and the story is written in the little girl's voice which makes it even more fun for those you are reading it to. I loved how the story unfolded as the little girl realized how she could talk to God anytime just like she can talk to her mom anytime! I think this book is great for young children, as parents we may pray at meals and at bedtime which becomes normal for our children, but how do they know they can talk to God anytime? It's obvious we can do so as adults, but not to our children. That's When I Talk to God is a great bedtime story and I can't wait to share it with my nieces and nephews! **I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for review from B & B Media Group.

That's When I Talk to God,
This review is from: That's When I Talk to God (Hardcover)
By Dan and Ali Morrow and Illustrated By Cory Godbey (David C Cook, 2011)This children's book portrays a wonderful story that teaches children that God is always listening for their prayers and that God speaks to them in many ways. The captivating illustrations are inspiring and comforting. With a durable hardcover, this book will likely become a regular bedtime story and one that children will want to keep for their own children as they grow up. The back pages of this book contain some Bible verses to supplement the story's message. A letter written from a grandpa to parents and grandparents is printed on the last page to motivate them to encourage their children and grandchildren to talk to God throughout each day. Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free through The B & B Media Group, Inc. book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. the Living Room Couch (blogspot)book reviews you want to read Snack of Choice: Warm cup of milk... and some Oreos with Peanut Butter... and make that COLD milk. Story behind the story: I JUST got this book. In fact, I JUST requested it as well. This is the first book I have received from the B&B Media Group. They are NOT the publisher, they are the media promoters. I'm very impressed with their swift response. The publisher for this particular book was published by David C. Cook. I am not required to give a positive review in exchange for this free product. Story Line: When can you talk to God and what do you talk to Him about? This children's book brings the parent and child who are reading it through a day in the life of a young girl who is discovering what it means to pray. When you wake up, on the playground, and under the stars - from praise and honor, to repentance and needs - we can follow the advice of Thess. 5:17 ("Pray continually). Story illustrated by Cory Godbey. The Real Story: I'm so glad to get some of these resources that I can use for YEARS. There are going to be kids in our house. Some will stay for a while and some will never leave (maybe after they turn 18), but how do I provide a godly base for them? Where do I start? No matter how much or how little a child knows about God, this story book provides the example and the opportunity for questions and for foundational truths to be unveiled. The book includes some great Scriptures on prayer that can be a part of the reading of the story. The one thing I wonder about has to do with the mother and daughter in the story. I could see my wife sharing this with our little girl, and I could even see me sharing it with her. My thought is about a boy's reaction to the story. Would he connect the way a girl would with the character (a girl)? Either way, I'm gonna give it a try! What a great book! Just a note, Ali is Lee Strobel's daughter. Lee writes a letter included at the back of the book encouraging parents to the use the resource. Check out: "That's where God Is" by the same authors Rating: 5 out of 5 conversations with God

Sweet Story With A Great Message,
This review is from: That's When I Talk to God (Hardcover)
I not only enjoyed this sweet story, but I approve of the message that it delivers to children: You can talk to God at any time and in any place about anything. The girl in the story learns to pray to tell God how much she loves Him, to thank Him, to apologize for bad attitudes and behavior, to ask Him to help others and herself, and to pray for those who don't know Him.I would highly recommend this book for preschoolers and early elementary students. It's a great lesson for parents and grandparents to share with the children in their lives.

This review is from: That's When I Talk to God (Hardcover)
That's When I Talk to God is a good, educational story for children. I liked the lesson that this book taught. That is that you don't have to just talk to God at night but you can talk to him anytime...small or large. I liked the illustrations as well. I thought they were colorful. The only comment I would make about this book is that I did feel that this book would be better suited to a little older age group like five and older. I think that this age group has a better attention span and would understand the message that this book is telling. That's When I Talk to God is a book that both parents and grand parents should read with their children. It is not only children that need to know that they can talk to God anytime but this is a good reminder to adults as well.

A little girl is saying her bedtime prayers, with her mother listening. At the end of the prayers, the mother reminds the little girl that she doesn't have to pray to God only at bedtime, but she can pray anytime. The girl has some questions, and Mom answers them, and the next day the little girl starts looking for times to talk to God.She discovers (with guidance) that she can thank God for what she likes, ask for forgiveness when she does wrong, and pray for the sick, among other things. And she also discovers these things in the car, while playing soccer, or visiting a friend. The girl also goes on to ask her mother about how God would talk to her. Mom answers her about some of the different ways God communicates with us, such as our conscience, and through His word. This is an adorable hardcover book with beautifully done pictures that are sure to engage your young children. My daughters are eight and five and they were both completely enthralled by the story. My eight year old read it to herself several times as well, when I didn't have time to read it right away. I asked my girls if they liked it and they both said yes. This book would make a great anytime gift (Easter, Kindergarten graduation, or whatever) gift for your favorite child. And even better it teaches them about God. Also good for church nurseries or libraries. There is a letter to parents from Lee Strobel at the end of the book.

As the editor of DevoKids.com, I have the privilege of reviewing books and conducting author interviews for the website. That's When I Talk to God is an important book for parents and children's ministry leaders to read to kids. In children's language, the authors, Dan and Ali Morrow, clarify how and when a child can pray. I urge you to buy this book and read to children from crib to college. Terri Kelly, DevoKids.com

Prayer is not just for bedtime,
By D.S. White (Whitehall, PA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: That's When I Talk to God (Hardcover)
This was truly a sweet and endearing introduction to prayer for little ones. It is perfect for those who are still being read to or those who are able to read for themselves. Through the power of repetition, the authors drive home the principle that we are to pray without ceasing--about everything. In a sweet and simple manner a little girl discovers that prayer is available, whenever, wherever, and that it is applicable from the smallest to the biggest things in her life and that she can pray all by herself--and not just at bedtime.

Teaching the Very Young about Prayer,
This review is from: That's When I Talk to God (Hardcover)
That's When I Talk to GodBy Dan & Ali Morrow Illustrated by Cory Godbey Published by David Cook Absolutely delightful book on the intimate relationship with God through prayer. The Morrow's present in story form several ways that children can pray to God throughout the day, not just at meals and bedtime. "You can pray about Anything, Anywhere, Anytime". Praising God for his artistry, thanking Him for friends and family, having a repentant heart, safety, courage and more. Heartfelt wording and actual prayers to help children see the simplicity in the prayers that they can have. This was a beautifully illustrated book, nice soft colors with purple calming undertones. Scripture and the Lord's Prayer are included in the back along with a letter to the reader from Ali's father Lee Strobel. A 5 star children's book that is a great addition on any child's bookshelf. Thankful to B & B Media Group for the privilege to review That's When I talk to God, and receive a free copy.

Sweet story about prayer,
By
This review is from: That's When I Talk to God (Hardcover)
That's When I Talk to God by Dan and Ali Morrow is a sweet story of one little girl's discoveries concerning prayer. The story begins with a bedtime conversation between the girl and her mom . . ."Praying is just talking to God," Mom explained. "Do you only talk to me once or twice a day?" "No," I giggled. "That's silly--I talk to you all day long!" "Exactly!" she said. "And you can talk to God all day long too." I thought about that for a minute. "But what would I talk to God about?" "Anything you want to," Mom said. "Try it tomorrow. I bet you'll find all sorts of things to talk to Him about." Thus begins the child's eye-opening journey as she finds more and more things to share with her Heavenly Father. We see her turn her failures, successes, concerns, questions, and feelings into conversations with God. By the end of the book, she's eager to hear what God has to say to her--through His Word. This book brought to mind my first conversations with God. I remember struggling to find the right words in spite of that niggling suspicion that the things in my life weren't worthy to put before Him. Then I learned that I could simply pour out my heart and trust my Heavenly Father to sort through it all. I was older than the girl in the story when I learned this lesson, but aren't we all encouraged to become like little children in our faith? (Matthew 18) This is a great story to give to any child. I think it would provoke interesting questions and conversations about how little ones can know God and be close to Him. I love the idea of children making God a central part of their lives early on. Dan and Ali have given us a wonderful tool for helping to make that happen. |
