I found this book profoundly moving. It speaks about child abuse in a personal way that relays the terrible harm that such experiences do. Unflinchingly facing the reality of physical abuse and the affects it can have on a whole family, and on the individuals in it, the 12 Foot Tee-pee shows that with the help of God, and loving family and friends, even those who are scarred can come to know peace.

This is an important subject that far too few people are brave enough to speak about. This book has tremendous impact, precisely because it is open, frank, and honest about the struggle with darkness and evil. It gives us hope because in it, we come to see the power of love to overcome that evil. It's love for her family, for God, and for her friends that motivates Maggie to overcome her dark past. It's the love of God, her family, and her friends that supports her and makes possible her redemption.

Big words. Serious subject. Very, very good book. Not light reading, but worthwhile reading.

Like the teepee she builds, the author's book in retrospect is a warm and very inspiring place to spend some time. The touching comedy of building the teepee humanizes and validates her thoughts on life and love.

I have to be fair as I've been a friend of the author for more than 40 years, so naturally I have a bias in favor of Ms. Armstrong. But in spite of this, I must be honest in evaluating The 12 Foot TeePee.

That being said, I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and readability of this book first and foremost. Her subject matter is not an easy one to write about as there is much hurt and disappointment throughout, which, I'm sure, others reading it will identify with. The unique thing about Ms. Armstrong's presentation is that regardless of the sadness of the topic, she presents it with a subtle but constant thread of optimism, and basic belief in humanity.., and therein lies the brilliance of the author. If any of this represents realities from her own life, or others close to her, she handles it with class and dignity as only one who is thoroughly understanding of the events and situations depicted can.

I can only say that as obscure an author as Marilyn Armstrong might appear to be, "The 12 Foot TeePee" is way worth the read.., far surpassing my apprehensions about reading the works of someone I know. I have absolutely no reservations about recommending 12 Foot TeePee to any and all.

For a woman who has had many negative experiences, Marilyn has seen her shadow and remained in the light. Sometimes an exhaustive narrative, it is well worth the read.
