From the Author
The 13th Victim grew from a very simple experience I had when I found a search engine reference to a woman who bore my name who had been murdered. From there, what I had planned to happen was not what happened at all - the characters became different from the ones I had originally envisioned, each with stories of their own to tell, with everything and everyone centered around an everyday woman with a broken heart and a broken life.
I wanted Pea, the main character, to be someone that many of us knew in our own lives. But, most of all, I wanted Pea to be the person that many of us recognize - a person often just trying to live a normal life, to have love, a family, and some sense of purpose, as well as someone with integrity, who if pushed, could be brave, could stand strong even when life was at its most difficult.
It was only after I finished The 13th Victim, that I found I could not leave some of the characters and so The Taliaferro Chronicles were born, with the next installment in the Chronicles scheduled for publication this fall, after the publication of my next book, Bell Park this summer. I felt the characters of The 13th Victim
had more to say and more to learn. They were ordinary people thrown into extraordinary circumstances, something that has happened to almost all of us, no matter how normal our lives may seem.
