The 188th Crybaby Brigade is an hilarious, yet insightful, account of an American Jew who immigrates to Israel and joins the Israel Defense Forces. This personal account of Joel's IDF army experience is fast-paced, humorous yet very insightful into military life and the reality of Israel from an American Jewish perspective. Chasing a long-held desire to join the IDF, Joel finds that his perception and reality are two different things. Very funny, great character development and very well written. Gives some great insight into internal Israeli social issues. I couldn't put it down.

I owe thanks to the person who gave me this book. It is funny, poignant, and easy to read. The story of Joel Chasnoff's journey is unlike anything I have read. It reminded me of some of my own times in the service (though not the IDF). But, I couldn't tell the story so well. I hope there are more Joel Chasnoff books in the future.
