Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

A Brooklyn-based yoga teacher and host of Veria TV's Rock Your Yoga, Nardini is known for founding Core Strength Vinyasa Yoga, which is described in detail in her first book. She is more concerned with building a strong and fit body than with weight loss: Healthy is the new skinny. Her program addresses the whole enchilada, using three transformational guideposts from the ancient yogi sage Patanjali (the author calls him Pat) who penned the yoga sutras: tapas (presence, new energy), svadhyaya (inner inquiry, truth, center) and ishvara pranidhana (aligned action, surrender). In separate chapters, Nardini takes readers through the eponymous 21 days, offering a three-pronged daily program of theme (i.e. get off your asana), yoga sequence (with accompanying photos), and food (a variety of creative recipes ranging from smoothies to main entrees). Irreverent, but practical, Nardini enjoys a good steak and a glass of wine, as will readers who follow her program, if they so choose. She encourages readers to eat 80-percent whole and healthy, and the other 20 percent not so much. With honesty, humor, and enthusiasm, Nardini takes a playful, yet energetic approach to strengthening and toning body, mind, and spirit. 337 b&w photos. Agent: Stephanie Tade, Stephanie Tade Agency. The book went above my expectations. I was thinking it was going to be more . . . I don't know . . . disorganized chaos that seems to come from every other yoga book. With scattered workouts you have to flip around all the time to get a whole workout (think those 15 minute workouts you can pair with other workouts - drives me nuts), Messages just randomly all over the book with little or no explanation as to why they are even there, and vegan like food that scares most people away (including me). This is not that.

First off, I love Sadie Nardini, her live videos are some of my favorite to watch on Youtube, her carefree attitude is infectious, and she goes above and beyond to make things accessible for everyone. Her book is no exception to that. In the book:

1. There is a breakdown of the yoga poses for warming up, Salutations, and cool down that are to be paired with a daily workout that is short, keeping your practice anywhere from 30 minutes to a full blown 90 depending on how many you do and for how long - This itself is super. And it is easy to follow along with and see how they flow together. If you have every done anything by Ms. Nardini you would notice some similarities in the salutations and warm up. Read ahead so you know what you are doing - just saying.
2. There are daily meal plans that you can of course flip through and vary, but also aren't going to completely break the bank like some others I have tried before. And while there is fish on the menu - a high priced item in my region - there are plenty of substitutions for it. Also there is no crazy food. I am throwing that out there, this is not a vegan based meal plan, you can eat meat, you can drink wine, watch your portions of course, and be prepared to try some new things as well.

Sadie's 21 Day Yoga Body is very approachable, its like sitting with your girlfriend, (your incredibly cool, chic, and smart girlfriend) where having balance in your life, not depravation is the deal. Day by Day themes followed by a yoga sequence and recipes, you also get access to video full hour practices to make following this program even easier. Sadie's approach to yoga has been transformational for me and I highly recommend this awesome book!

I've been practicing yoga for many years and "The 21-Day Yoga Body" upgrades and clarifies for me how to do yoga effectively. Sadie's video bonuses are a treasure chest of step-by-step guidance to learn the right way to do yoga for maximum benefit. Highly recommend to improve both mental and physical health, especially the breathing techniques.

We are lucky to live in 2 places (city and country homes) and I was so tired of carrying this book back and forth I just bought a 2nd copy. This is my go to book for SO many things. I LOVE the recipes! I use them constantly. They are so approachable, easy, delicious & healthy. I first used this book as a tune up- to get me back on track but I find I refer to it constantly and I'm always going back for great healthy food ideas & the very good thoughts that are waiting for me. I love the yoga too, it's really help whip me into better shape. I know Sadie personally and this book is like hanging out with her. You'll really get to know her, and yourself through this fun inspiring read! Read a little bit at a time, or the whole thing. It's just great. Can't say enough good stuff.

I purchased this book because I personally enjoy the challenge of building a habit over a period of time; in this case, I wanted to include a yoga session into my daily exercise routine, and from its description, this book seemed to be what I was looking for.

The yoga workouts are just ok, however; Ms. Nardini uses cutesy terms in her pose descriptions like "Waterfall Warrior" and "Wrist Kiss Forward Bend." It just seems a little too much like she is trying to re-brand (dumb down) a 5000 year old tradition.

That said, I have stuck with the yoga exercises, and I've tried to implement the themes into my daily intentions. The themes are good, the writing is so-so; there are far too many personal stories about how empowered the author feels now that she has written a book. I would have gained more from reading about other people's stories and their growth in their practice.

The pictures and the pose descriptions are lacking in clarity, to say the least. It's hard to build a flow if you have to constantly flip pages to find out where the next pose starts.

I did not buy the book for the recipes, though they do seem "real world" enough, and I may try out one or two of them at a future date.

The "Action" portions of the book were also amusing, but again, the writing was not terrifically compelling.

I guess the book has influenced me enough to keep me looking for a better 21 day habit forming plan to truly incorporate yoga into my daily life.
