Editorial Reviews

Review

Essential insights to help you take control of your financial future. James teaches you how to create wealth while reducing risk -- keys to a successful and secure tomorrow. --Dr. Rick Cardin, President, Harvard Growth Strategies, LLC

Finally !! For more than 25 years I have been working with business owners. I can't even count the number of people who have come asking for help while standing on their suicide plank. After working their whole career at whatever they do, they made the mistake of getting incompetent, or dishonest, commission driven advice that wiped out everything they had worked for. James has created a refreshing and much need solution that not only helps the reader think, but helps them realize what to think about. Don't just read it. Study it and make the information part of your lifelong planning. --Joe Sanfellipo -Award winning author and internationally known entrepreneur and business growth strategist.

This book is very educational and informative. It dismisses many financial misconceptions. --Kwesi Nichols and Tristan Cooley, authors of The Best in the Game.

5.0 out of 5 stars This should be a high school requirement March 28, 2008
Format:Paperback
The 3 Secret Pillars of Wealth should be a reading requirement for all high school kids in America. I truly feel that young people need, and can benefit from this type of financial education. James did a fantastic job of making finance simple, which is very refreshing because finance can be an intimidating subject. That is probably why most Americans run away from the topic, and then find themselves in financial trouble. What I enjoyed most about the book is that he actually laid out simple starting places for me to get started investing and building wealth.

Again, if kids could learn how to acquire real estate investments rather than get a job at McDonalds, the financial landscape of this country and the world would look very different. I feel this book is a step in the right direction. Thank you James I enjoyed it very much!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not your usual gimmick March 21, 2008
Format:Paperback
I am not a fan of get-rich quick schemes, high-pressure sales tactics for products I don't need, or slick seminars that only make the speaker richer. But, somehow or another, I purchased this book based on the strong urging of a friend, and I have been very pleasantly surprised. Burns offers neither deceptively simple solutions nor mere hollow teasers: what he does offer is well-researched principles on how to get your money to work for you. In doing so, he expertly navigates the course between foolish risk and equally foolish complacency. He gets the reader in the right mindset, exposing the weaknesses of much conventional wisdom, and then encourages him or her to seek further professional guidance and resources in the proper implementation of his "pillars." His novel views on how we should look at our biggest investment, our home, are especially valuable. A must read for young professionals just starting out (like me), entrepreneurs at their peak, or retirees.

4.0 out of 5 stars Actually very good December 9, 2009

I was not sure what to expect with this book. I have, unfortunately, read my share of either "boring" or "ridiculous" books that assure you instant money and wealth.

i was extremely surprised and pleased to discover that this book is nothing like that. The 3 Secret Pillars of Wealth is actually a well researched, well thought out and quite interesting book on the world of finance - but brought down to a level that most non-financial people, such as myself, can clearly understand and follow.

This book does focus mainly on investment and investments and having been written in the US is, of course, focus on the US economy and practices but nonetheless this was a very helpful book.

I found some interesting ideas and some practices that I had, frankly, never thought about.

This book was also quite inspiring -making me feel as though, even with just a little money, I can actually grow my savings and although I am not sure about the "wealth" part of the title, I can certainly do things to increase my own net financial value.

Very good book and extremely well written and researched.
