Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Gr 3–7—Amy, Dan, Jake, and Atticus arrive in Guatemala to find the next ingredient for the serum antidote that will stop J. Rutherford Pierce in his quest to take over the world. The boys are still giving Amy the cold shoulder, upset over decisions she has made as head of the Cahill family, but they continue to work together to outsmart Pierce's henchmen and decode the clues necessary to find the next ingredient. While searching for temple ruins in the rainforest, Dan's life is threatened; to save him, Amy makes a difficult decision that will have far-reaching consequences. The stakes are higher than ever in the latest installment. The solid, well-paced narration of David Pittu keeps listeners engaged from the first chapter through the intense ending. Pittu smoothly switches between characters by providing distinct voices for each, though it's occasionally difficult to differentiate between Dan and Atticus. As the penultimate book in the series, multiple lives are left hanging in the balance and listeners will be on the edge of their seats as they await the conclusion.—Amanda Raklovits, Champaign Public Library, IL --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

At first, I actually liked this book.

Don’t get me wrong, I still do like it, but that ending killed me. I died, literally died as soon as I read that last page, the LAST PAGE TOO. I HAD HOPE ON THE PAGE BEFORE THAT BUT NOOOOOO HE/SHE JUST HAD TO DIE. THERE GOES ANOTHER ONE OF MY FAVORITE CHARACTERS.

Excuse me while I flush my hopes and dreams down the toilet.

~

Now that I’m back, let me explain to you a thing about books. Books are not ordinary wastes of trees, books are fantasies, a bunch of different worlds you can transport yourself to to live there with all your favorite characters and live stories with la dee da happy endings.

Well friends, not in this book.

No, in this book, one characters dies, half almost die, two are in jail, one is kidnapped, and one has four days to live. Well har-dee har-har, Ms. Strandiford are you trying to kill us? Did someone give you permission to do this or are you just going all #YOLO? Cause, I do not approve. Nope, I don’t approve of you being this fabulous of an author. So please stop, okay? Thank you.

Now I actually thought this was going to be a crappy book. I thought to myself, “It can’t get any worse than the last book!” Ha ha, nope.

Ms. Strandiford, you truly are an amazing writer and I would love to read more of your books, and would be overjoyed (but also deathly terrified) if you continued writing in the 39 Clues series. I think we, as in all 39 Clues fans, would agree that Unstoppable: Countdown is one of the best books in this series yet.

In conclusion, I believe that all 39 Clues fans will love/hate/spazz-a-lot-over this book and that it is an excellent read. Thank me for wasting your time. I’m gong to go cry now.

SCHOLASTIC BOOKS SENT ME THE ABOVE BOOK FOR REVIEW PURPOSES. IT WILL ALLOW ME TO KEEP THE BOOK. I HAVE NO OTHER CONNECTION TO AND HAVE RECEIVED NO OTHER COMPENSATION FROM SCHOLASTIC.

I have read all of the 39 clue books more then once, and each one gets better and better.
the unstoppable series is by far the best [beside the original 39 clues series]. this book is very entertaining, there are a lot of twists and turns in this book, mystery, cliff hangers etc.

I would definitely recommend this book for any 39 clues fan, or any kid wanting to read a good thriller slash mystery slash awesome book.

Great plot! Was fun to read and kept me interested. I did not like the end when Pony died because he was cool and funny.

While I like the concept of a pass-along story and have read each of the 39 Clues books, I think that killing off another character after recently killing one off is a shame, especially since the character is a child. There was no purpose plot-wise to do this. Wouldn't there be the same effect for the Cahills if he was only injured? Also, I don't get all of the sitting around a hotel room that happens in this story or the Jake and Amy thing. Where's the sense of urgency? It's like, look I know we could die at any moment, but let's take some time to order room service and Google something. If I were the bad guys, I'd just storm in and end the whole thing -- although I know they can't since Scholastic needs to get at least another $12 from me and the others readers. This may be my last 39 Clues read.

this book was truly one of my favorites! i have read all of the books, and it is worth every penny. i rated this book 5 stars, and the book before it 4 or 5 stars for the following reasons ( this review will count for Breakaway and Countdown

Countdown
1. it had interesting choices of words, and language, but not too hard.
2. the plot and chaptrrs ran together, and effort was put into the book.
3. the charcters were descibed vividly, not sloppily.
4. it was not done sloppily ( incorrect words, cuss words, ext. )
5. the charcters all had their parts, though some will not be appearing in Flashpoint :(
6. it had an interesting plot and story structure.
7. the books also have 6 collectable game cards for the website, which is enjoyable.
it was nice to learn that Jake can speak spanish as well as other languages in this book, and we get to learn that all the boys care for Amy, and they retrieve riven crystal in this book.
it was tied up nicely and i think any 39 clues fan would enjoy it.
