Counting the Omer can be a deeply spiritual and rewarding observance, when one takes the time to connect to it on a deeper level. Counting the Omer reminds us of the link between Pesach and Shavuot and that redemption ultimately requires Torah. In the Chasidic tradition counting the Omer is seen as an opportunity to engage in daily study and reflection, so that we might refine ourselves interpersonally and spiritually in preparation for Shavuot and the receiving of the Torah.

While I am far from being a seasoned veteran when it comes to this observance, Counting the Omer is something that I do every year. I like it because it's a chance for me to reflect on various character traits in an open and honest fashion. Doing this helps me to see some of my rough spots and allows me the opportunity to make little Tikkun's (repairs) both on myself and in my relationships, which is always a good thing, right!

This year I have been using Rabbi Gavriel Goldfeder's brand new book "The 50th Gate: a Spirited Walk through the Counting of the Omer'. I had the chance to read through the entire book before this years round of counting began and was very impressed with it. Each day's entry is short enough that most people should be able to read it in just a couple of minutes but has enough substance to keep you thinking about it throughout the day. It's written in straightforward language making it accessible to the novice while still managing to be meaty enough to challenge even the most seasoned Omer counter through this 49 day observance. This book is a great resource which will help you connect to the Omer in and new and helpfull ways! Buy this book!

Amazing insightful booklet! I was always curious about the significance of the Omer and now I have a much better understanding of what it means and how to utilize this precious time period. I think I should study this every day for the rest of my life!

I have read/used other Omer books in previous years. This book is clear and deeply insightful. The explanations of the sefirot (character traits) are accurate and fresh. And each day's message ends with a practical application to help develop that facet of the matrix of our being.

If you want growth this season, I would recommend this book and the diligence to put it to work for 49 days. I'm looking forward to a season of personal growth.
