'The $5.98 EP: The Garage Days Re-Revisited' is a killer Metallica album. Minus the album status, of course. These 5 songs feature Metallica at their heaviest, and it's really cool to hear them tackle everything from The Misfits to Diamond Head on this record.

Track listing:

1. Helpless (originally recorded by Diamond Head)-A good song originally, but Metallica just rocks it here. It has a very garage band sound mixed with the Black Sabbath-'70s metal style combined. A great cover.

2. The Small Hours (originally recorded by Holocaust)-Again, a very good song, but Metallica makes it even better. The song is a slower song, but it is just as heavy as anything else they did. James' vocals are very passionate, and Lars' drum beat is amazing. A must listen if you are a Metallica fan.

3. The Wait (originally recorded by Killing Joke)-One of Metallica's best songs period. This is miles better than the Killing Joke version, and once again, Metallica succeeds in making this song their own. Another must listen for a Metallica fan.

4. Crash Course In Brain Surgery (originally recorded by Budgie)-This record has a garageband sound to it that no other Metallica song has. This is an essential song from Metallica; Lars' drumming on this song is superb. It's not one of his standout pieces by no means, nor is it one of the band's, but it's a must-listen.

5. Last Caress/Green Hell (originally recorded by The Misfits)-And Metallica closes the record out in style. The whole band rocks out on this one, which carries a very garage sound as well. Essential for the Metallica fan to listen to.

Overall, if you've never heard Metallica's takes on these songs, than please buy this EP. It is, indeed, one of Metallica's crown jewels.

I had this on tape in the late 80's early 90's when I was a teenager and loved it then. Rockin' memories of highschool and getting my drivers license. Of course, since then, I lost the tape and never found it on CD in any store. I came here and !BANG! there it is! woohoo..most expensive single-CD I have bought at 50 some-odd bucks,,but well worth every penny.

Love the songs they do on this album and the "out-take" garage-jam sort of feel to it. A few friends that really liked Metallica back then never heard of this album and when I played it for them, were blown away.

I got this on record a few years ago before this came out on the Garage Inc CD with all the B Sides. Nonetheless, I love this album, the album cover -- they all look really happy and on the back you see the picture negatives of them in and out of truck with Lars's father. Hearing these songs alone is a treat on record... You really feel the energy and the good vibes the band members had back then.

All the way through, it it classic Metallica doing some great covers, which you can totally understand the similarities of the songs they copy and how they were influenced.

Often when bands take it easy, do covers and fool around it can sound better! Last Caress (Originally by Danig) is better than the one on here, but this is all done just for kicks.

Oddly enough, it's one of my favorite "albums," and too add, I think it's better than the original Garage Days, because It has more songs. I think the songs chosen here are phenomenal and show a remarkable recovery since Cliff died the year before in a bus accident in Sweden. I

There's even a "nutty bow" to Iron Maiden's "Run to the Hills" on here as well. It is as if Iron Maiden, returned the greeting by putting on their "Be Quick or be Dead" single "...Metallica in the rear view mirror" in the song they covered "Space Station No. 5."

If you like collecting records, this is the one to have! Metallica, the raw Metallica!

PS: I am pleased to learn that you can records of Amazon too -- Sweet! They should make it more well-known!

Garage Days RE-revisted marked the debut of new Bassist Jason "new kid" Newstead who replaced Cliff Burton (RIP) who was tragically killed in a bus accident the year previous in Sweden. Although the remaining members still obviously grieving produced or (obviously not produced) 5 kick ass cover songs from the 70's/80's NWOBHM Danzig isn't considered NWOBHM but they're fans of The Misfits. Another plus you can actually hear Jason play bass as apposed to ...And Justice his amps were turned down as part of the hazing (that was still going on at that time). Garage Days is a worthy stand alone addition to your Tallica collection but word of caution a physical CD can be dear (expensive) depending on condition and beware of bootlegs.PS Do yourself a favor and track down the original recordings well worth it to hear their influences.

1.Helpless Originally by Diamond head

2.The Small Hours Originally by Holocaust

3.The Wait Originally by Killing Joke

4.Crash Course in Brain Surgery Originally by Budgie

5.Last Caress/Green Hell originally by The Misfits and a cheeky nod to Iron Maiden w/the intro to Run To The Hills
