Review

The ABCs of Strategic Life Planning provides readers with a hands-on, very simple workbook approach for developing a Strategic Life Plan for their Ideal Future, both professionally and personally. Author Stephen Haines brings his renowned Systems Thinking Approach(R) to this practical A-B-C systems framework which facilitates readers to easily follow at their own pace and in turn understand the importance of Strategic Life Planning and the keys to a successful life. As founder of the Haines Centre for Strategic Management, Haines knows a thing or two about the desire to achieve success and delivers proof for his unique Systems Thinking Approach (R). This book offers dozens of templates, check lists and examples from Haines experience in change management and life planning clients, including; families, couples, family-owned businesses, as well as organizations undergoing high growth, turn-around, restructurings, and strategic transformations.

The ABCs of Strategic Life Planning shows individuals, couples, families and family-owned businesses how planning with conscious intent can blend their Ideal Futures from each aspect of their lives into a synergistic whole. Following his motto, clarity and simplicity are keys to success in life, Haines addresses the critical necessity of planning at every level, and outlines five basic A-B-C-D-E systems phases required for successful life planning. Interweaving step-by-step narrative with each worksheet for hands-on planning, Haines shows how to implement the desired changes using backwards thinking, by developing core strategies and converting them into actions. The importance of creating a parallel process, goal-setting, and surviving the Rollercoaster of Change are addressed throughout the book. Along with his wife, the Haines share their personal career and life plan with the readers and provide a detailed outline of their Strategic Life Plan as a sample.

The ABCs of Strategic Life Planning illustrates why a bit by bit , analytic approach no longer works and why the Systems Thinking Approach(R) is a must in order to assist individuals, couples, families and family-owned businesses of all sizes and types, go beyond merely perpetuating day-to-day habits in life and career goal-setting, and, instead, taking part in a proactive journey through the Discovery, Strategies and Actions needed to achieve personal success for their future.

I never thought planning out my career could be so complicated, but I can definitely say that the guidance this book has given me is irreplaceable. The worksheets are simple but once it's all said and done, they are surprisingly helpful in mapping out a detailed guide for the actual steps you will need to take to be successful. I liked that the writer not only commented throughout the book, but actually shared his personal plan for us to see. Definitely worth my time and money.

I found this book extremely useful as it helped me begin planning for my retirement.

It helped me focus on what steps I needed to take in order to be financially ready for retirement.

It also helped me to identify what I wanted to do with my next career and areas where I needed more formal education and training.

I would suggest that everyone use this workbook to help them in all areas of their lives.
