Review

"* "Easily the best comics series around." Time Out * "A spellbinding series." The Sunday Times * "A comic strip for intellectuals." - Norman Mailer" --This text refers to an alternate Hardcover edition.

About the Author

Neil Gaiman is the most critically acclaimed comics writer of the 1990s and is the author of numerous books and graphic novels. He is the New York Times No. 1 bestselling author of American Gods and Anansi Boys, and won critical acclaim for his first feature film, Mirrormask, with long-time collaborator Dave McKean. His current project is a big-screen version of his comic Death: The High Cost of Living, and his illustrated novel Stardust was recently filmed by director Matthew Vaughn (Layer Cake). --This text refers to an alternate Hardcover edition.

More About the Author

I make things up and write them down. Which takes us from comics (like SANDMAN) to novels (like ANANSI BOYS and AMERICAN GODS) to short stories (some are collected in SMOKE AND MIRRORS) and to occasionally movies (like Dave McKean's MIRRORMASK or the NEVERWHERE TV series, or my own short film A SHORT FILM ABOUT JOHN BOLTON).

In my spare time I read and sleep and eat and try to keep the blog at www.neilgaiman.com more or less up to date.

Vol 4 is a very much a worthy conclusion to the Sandman series. It does an amazing job of bringing together all of the many (many) disparate threads into a single resolution that is totally and completely satisfying. While some may not like the simple art style featured in "The Kindly Ones," you'd be hard pressed not to admit that the art for "The Wake" looks beautiful and sets the tone perfectly.

The Sandman is one of the greatest comic series ever writen and this compilation, Sandman Absolute vol 1, 2, 3 and 4 have the quality that this piece of art deserves!

Awesome finishing, all the extras and comments, the box and hardcover are flawless!

This is a must have for any comic addicted and is the best "graphical novel" writen by Neil G. that you may ever find on earth!

As is the case with the first three volumes, this over-sized, expensive book is more than worth the purchase price. Unlike many of DC's hardcover volumes, the quality of the Absolute editions is impeccable.

As for the material itself, it's Neil Gaiman. What more is there to say?

Sandman itself has been reviewed multiple times, so I'll just talk about the book itself.

This is an amazing edition. The book is large and pretty hefty, so make sure you have room for it before you order! The box sleeves the book comes in is covered in awesome art book that is also reflected on the book cover itself. I love how thick the pages are. The extras and forwards are a big plus to collectors. While you could purchase the Omnibus for less than the collective price of these five books, I would recommend these. Better material, more extras, and all around better display. Truly the absolute version of The Sandman!

The Absolute Sandman, Vol 4 was, practically, unreadable. Which is such a waste from the strong showing of Vol 1, the decent work on Vol 2 & 3, then the slide began to the bottom, Vol 4. This was not aided by the childish artwork on the long-winded storyline of "The Kindly Ones," wherein, I could not keep track of the characters because I could not tell who they are from the artwork. It is so sad when one looks forward to something due to it begins only to be frustrated about how it ends.

Absolutely beautiful packaging for one of the best graphic novels of all time, what's not to like. The illustration is great as well.

Really touching conclusion to the series, does such a great job of showing Dream's flaws and principles, while also highlighting his relationship with Death.
